Barnabus Energy Announces New Solar Roofing Project in Illinois
SOLANA BEACH, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/15/06 -- Barnabus Energy, Inc. (OTC BB: BBSE),
currently doing business as Open Energy Corporation subject to a pending
name change, announced today that its recent acquisition, Connect Energy of
California has secured an exciting new solar project; the Evelyn Pease
Tyner Interpretive Center, located in Naperville, a nearby suburb of
Chicago, Illinois.
VP of Sales, Steve Coonen, commented: "This project combines many
environmental features, not the least of which is our $250,000 solar PV
tile system. The goal of the architects and builders is to be a LEED
certified platinum building, the highest standard for sustainable building
and construction in the country."
The Tyner Interpretive Center was designed by Lois Vitt Sale of Wight &
Company, an architectural firm deeply committed to green building
principles and practices. The 6,000 square foot facility will be built on
a 32-acre restored prairie and is to be constructed on a pin foundation to
maintain the natural hydrology of the land. Its purpose is to be a
learning shelter and exhibit space, telling the story of this important
grassland ecosystem.
In addition to solar tiles, the roof will be covered with prairie grasses
and succulent plants. The roof design is composed of structural insulated
panels with an R value of 38, making it highly efficient. Other
environmental features include East West orientation, natural lighting,
displacement (passive) ventilation, a geothermal heat pump for heating and
cooling, and incorporation of environmental materials such as paneling made
of wheat straw.
Lois Vitt Sale stated that, "We wanted the building to fit into the cycle
of the prairie. Our goal was to be a net zero energy building, generating
as much energy as it uses, just like nature. We look forward to working
with Open Energy on this and future projects." It should be noted that
Chicago is considered a hotbed of solar activity, as there is funding
available through the local utility, Commonwealth Edison, to significantly
support renewable energy projects.
