ING accounts in Mexico frozen on insurance claim seeking 300 mln usd damages 29.08.2003 13:37 Headlines
AMSTERDAM (AFX) - A Mexican judge has frozen the accounts of ING Commercial
America, a unit of ING Group NV, as part of a claim against the company seeking
300 mln usd in damages.
An ING spokesman confirmed the court measure was taken yesterday. The
Mexican fertilizer producer Fertinal is seeking 300 mln usd from an insurance
claim with the company after damages from a hurricane in September 2001.
ING is disputing the amount of damages and is working quickly to restore
access to its accounts, a spokesman said. He declined to comment on possible
steps to be taken against Fertinal.
