Evergreen Solar Installs High-Performance Core Production Technology

Wailoloa, HI Today at the IEEE 4th World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion, GreenMountain Engineering LLC announced that it has deployed the first of a new line of production equipment at Evergreen Solar.
As part of a larger manufacturing scale-up, Evergreen Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ: ESLR) has installed a redesigned version of the equipment that stretches molten silicon into a wide, thin band, called a String Ribbon(TM) puller. The new piece of key production equipment, which features dramatically reduced cost and higher performance output, is designed to integrate with Evergreen's next-generation wafer production technology. The first copy of the puller has been installed in the R&D facilities in Marlboro, Massachusetts. Other copies will be deployed in the company's new facilities in Thalheim, Germany.
The new system was developed by GreenMountain Engineering, which worked with Evergreen to conceive and build the new design, implementing proprietary technology concepts. Based on a fresh analysis of previous system performance and first principles, GreenMountain delivered a completely reconceived puller. The new machine features reduced cost and weight, greater ease of assembly, and four times better velocity control.
