Germany says EU leaders crisis meet likely Saturday
BERLIN, Oct 1 (Reuters) - A proposed meeting of leaders from France,
Germany, Britain and Italy to discuss the financial crisis appears likely on
Saturday but the details have not yet been fixed, a German government spokesman
said on Wednesday.
Thomas Steg told a regular news conference the meeting was tentatively set
for Saturday and would also likely include European Central Bank President
Jean-Claude Trichet and Eurogroup chairman Jean-Claude Juncker.
"It seems quite likely that there will be a meeting on Saturday," Steg
said. "But there is not yet a final confirmation of that."
French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced the meeting, a few days before
the Group of Seven rich nations meet in Washington on Oct. 10, as a preparatory
step to what he hopes will be a full summit of world leaders on the financial
crisis before the end of the year. Keywords: GERMANY EU/MEETING
