www.akamai.com/

Nasdaq:          AKAM
WKN-Frankfurt:   928906.F

- Charttechnisch ein Kauf
- über 2000 Server in der Welt verteilt
- 5-fach schnellerer Site-Aufbau (Test unter: www.kimble.org/ )
- e-Broadcasting (iBeam Mitbewerb)

für mich ein Kauf, Bodenbildung müßte abgeschlossen sein und das alte Hoch sollten bei dieser Firma in 12 Monaten wieder erreicht sein.

Schaut Euch mal den Jahres Chart und die News an.

Mission:

Akamai's mission is to transform the delivery of Internet content so that Web congestion is a thing of the past. Akamai provides businesses with dependable, high-performance delivery of rich Web content and Internet applications through services that are scalable, easily implemented and easily managed.

As a service provider, Akamai is focused on addressing the needs of eCommerce companies and content providers that view Web performance as a critical component to their success. Akamai's services enable Web site owners to deliver their content with high-performance and reliability. We achieve these results by combining our technology innovators with our very large, ever-expanding global server network. (See Our Network).

Akamai's global coverage ensures that content is always close to users -- no matter where they are located. Visitors to Akamaized Web sites experience increased performance, reliability, and richer content -- without any modifications to browser software.

Akamai guarantees that Web content will be served with no excuses. Akamai not only guarantees network reliability, but also speed of delivery. For Web-intensive businesses, this ironclad guarantee means that Web site visitors stay longer on-site. And longer visitation means more advertising click-throughs and more eCommerce revenues.

For Akamai, attention to the network is not enough. Our focus on the customer has enabled Akamai to become a best-of-breed service provider in both our services and our customer care. To that end, the company continually pursues change to maximize its value to customers. Akamai employees pride themselves on professionalism, fast response and unflagging attention to customers.

Origins:

Akamai's beginnings lie in a challenge posed by World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee to academia at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in early 1995. The father of the Web foresaw the congestion that is now very familiar to Internet users today and challenged colleagues at MIT to invent a fundamentally new and better way to deliver Internet content. What he probably didn’t expect was that posing such an academic problem would ultimately result in a service that is revolutionizing Internet content delivery.

MIT Professor of Applied Mathematics Tom Leighton, who had an office down the hall from Berners-Lee, was intrigued by the challenge. Leighton recognized that a solution to Web congestion could be found in applied mathematics and algorithms. He solicited the help of graduate student Danny Lewin and several other top researchers to tackle the problem. Dr. Leighton, a renowned expert on parallel algorithms and architecture, has served as Head of the Algorithms Group at MIT's Laboratory for Computer Science since its inception in 1996.

Leighton and Lewin were joined by other scientists with expertise in computer science and data networking to develop the mathematical algorithms necessary to handle the dynamic routing of content. David Karger, MIT Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Dr. Bruce Maggs, an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon threw in their expertise to solve what is now a frustrating problem for Internet users.

Building a Business
These world-class computer scientists developed a set of breakthrough algorithms for intelligently routing and replicating content over a large network of distributed servers — without relying on centralized servers typically used by Web site owners today. Jonathan Seelig, then enrolled in the MIT Sloan MBA program, joined the founding team and they began building the business plan for Internet content delivery that would lead to Akamai's inception.

In 1998, the group entered the esteemed annual MIT $50K Entrepreneurship Competition, where the company's business proposition was selected as one of 6 finalists among 100 entries. The distinction signaled that Internet content delivery had serious market merit. Akamai obtained an exclusive license to the technology from MIT and Leighton, while Lewin and Seelig took leave from MIT to work on building Akamai into a new kind of world-class service provider. What followed can best be described as a unique marriage of scientific and Internet minds.

In late 1998, a group of experienced Internet business professionals began to join this founding team. Most notably, Paul Sagan (former President of Time Inc. New Media, founder of Road Runner cable modem service and NY 1 News) became Chief Operating Officer and President of Akamai Technologies. George Conrades, former Chairman and Chief Executive officer of BBN Corp. and Senior VP of US Operations for IBM assumed the helm as Chief Executive Officer a few months later.

Launching Commercial Service
Together these computer scientists and experienced Internet professionals founded Akamai, a service provider dedicated to ending the "World Wide Wait" through intelligent Internet content delivery. Following the receipt of venture financing, the company launched a commercial service in April 1999 and announced that one of the world’s most trafficked Web properties, Yahoo!, became a charter customer.

Akamai (pronounced AH kuh my) is a Hawaiian word for intelligent and clever. Informally, it means "cool."
