Compaq Computer (CPQ) said after the close of trade Monday that its first-quarter net income was $200 million, or 12 cents a share, minus a one-time charge and other items. That compares to last year's number of $296 million, or 17 cents a share. Analysts surveyed by First Call/Thomson Financial expected the PC maker to earn 13 cents a share, with sales of $9.14 billion. Revenue in the quarter was $9.2 billion, vs. $9.5 billion in the same period a year earlier. Ahead of the news, Compaq shares lost 86 cents to $20.65.
