Redbook: US Retail Sales Third Week Oct Up 1.4% Versus Sep
NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Redbook Research's latest indicator of national retail sales shows sales were up 1.4% in the third week of October compared with the same period in September.
This was above a targeted gain of 0.6%.
The report also shows seasonally adjusted sales in the month to date were up 0.9% from the same period in 2001.
The Redbook staff said on an unadjusted basis, sales in the week ended Oct. 26 were up 0.7% from the same week in 2001.
Redbook staff also said that although sales pulled back during the third week of October, "the tone of business remains firm," with growth outpacing September's pace. Retailers said cooler weather helped boost shopping traffic and average sales tickets.
Among regions, the Northeast and Midwest enjoyed a pickup in customer traffic, said discounters.
Redbook Research, formerly a division of Lynch Jones & Ryan Inc., is a division of Instinet Research.
