Sun Micro reports $121 million fourth-quarter profit (SUNW) By Rex Crum
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Sun Microsystems (SUNW) reported a fourth-quarter profit of $121 million, or 4 cents a share, compared to $783 million, or 23 cents a share in the same period a year ago. Revenue fell to $2.98 billion from $3.11 billion. Excluding one-time items and charges, Sun earned $200 million, or 6 cents a share. Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call had forecast the computer server and software company to report a profit of 1 cent a share on revenue of $2.98 billion.

Electronic Arts swings to first-quarter loss (ERTS) By Scott Banerjee
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Electronic Arts (ERTS) on Tuesday after the market close said it swung to a first fiscal quarter as sales fell 15% from the same period last year. Revenue for the period was $365 million compared to $431.6 million last year. Net losses for the quarter came in at $58 million, or 19 cents a share, compared to profits of $24.2 million, or 8 cents a share, for last year. The company said losses excluding certain charges were $55 million, or 18 cents a share. Analysts were expecting a loss of 24 cents a share on revenue of $326.7 million, according to consensus estimates from Thomson First Call. Shares of EA closed the regular session down 4.7% to $59.

Biogen revenue, profit beat expectations (BIIB) By Val Brickates Kennedy
BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- Biogen Idec (BIIB) topped Wall Street estimates late Tuesday by reporting it had second-quarter revenue of $606 million, up from $539 million last year, due largely to increased sales of the company's drugs Avonex and Rituxan. Net income for the quarter was 10 cents, compared with zero cents last year. Excluding hefty charges related to the merger of Biogen and Idec, and the recent sale of a manufacturing facility, Biogen would have reported adjusted net income of 43 cents a share, compared to 34 last year. A poll of analysts by Thomson First Call estimated the biotechnology group would have adjusted earnings of 36 cents a share, on revenue of $599 million.

Amazon.com steigert Gewinn, positiver Ausblick, Aktie nachbörslich fester

Der US-amerikanische Internet-Händler Amazon.com Inc. (ISIN US0231351067/ WKN 906866) legte am Dienstag nachbörslich die Ergebnisse für das abgelaufene zweite Quartal 2005 vor.

Die Erlöse stiegen den Angaben zufolge zwar im Vorjahresvergleich von 1,39 Mrd. Dollar auf 1,75 Mrd. Dollar an. Der Überschuss lag jedoch nur bei 52 Mio. Dollar oder 12 Cents je Aktie, nach einem Gewinn von 76 Mio. Dollar oder 18 Cents je Aktie im Vorjahreszeitraum. Im Vorfeld lagen die Analystenschätzungen aber nur bei einem Gewinn von 10 Cents je Aktie und einem Umsatz von 1,73 Mrd. Dollar.

Für das aktuelle Quartal gehen Analysten bisher von einem EPS von 10 Cents und einem Umsatz von 1,81 Mrd. Dollar aus. Amazon selbst rechnet für das laufende Quartal mit einem Umsatz von 1,76 bis 1,91 Mrd. Dollar. Der Gewinn wird bei 60 bis 90 Mio. Dollar gesehen.

Die Aktie von Amazon gewinnt nachbörslich über 8 Prozent.
