Strike's strategy for Australia is to focus on exploration in the offshore Carnarvon Basin and the onshore Cooper/Eromanga Basin. The company also participates in drilling opportunities in selected areas of the USA.
The Carnarvon Basin is currently Australia's most prolific oil and gas producing basin. With significant oil and gas infrastructure, offshore drilling and development costs are amongst the lowest in Australia.
Strike has assembled a portfolio of high quality permits that are all located in water depths suitable for the use of jack-up rigs (less than 80 metres) and proven development technology. The Cooper- Eromanga Basin is Australia's most prolific onshore oil and gas basin. The basin also has significant oil and gas infrastructure facilitating rapid commercial development of oil and gas discoveries. Even oil discoveries as small as 1 million barrels may be economic. | java applet, Copyright 2002 GD |
Strike has assembled
a portfolio containing both permits with low risk, close in drilling opportunities and permits with higher risk but greater reward.
Exploration in both areas, has in the past, been dominated by major oil companies who have been successful in exploring and exploiting these basins. Despite this previous work, these areas remain under-explored and offer significant potential for commercial discoveries.
The Carnarvon Basin, in particular, offers similar opportunities to those recently demonstrated in the onshore Cooper Basin.
There, small companies have experienced significant exploration success, once provided with access to acreage previously controlled by the established large companies.
In the Carnarvon Basin, the scale of potential discoveries is larger and provides company-making opportunities.
Strike Oil intends to maintain an active exploration campaign in both basins in 2006.
In the Otway Basin, Strike Oil has taken up the offers for two exploration permits, covering the Kingston coal deposit in the south east of South Australia.
One permit (PEL 127) provides Strike Oil the rights to evaluate the coal seam gas and in seam gasification potential of the coal and the other (EL 3385) provides the rights to evaluate the coal deposit.
Strike Oil participates in wells as a non-operator in the Gulf Coast, Texas, USA, under an agreement with Cypress E&P Corporation.
This agreement provides Strike Oil with access to ongoing exploration and appraisal opportunities in selected parts of Jackson, Wharton and Fort Bend counties immediately to the west of Houston.
This region has been one of the most prolific oil and gas producing regions of North America.
Strike Oil also has a joint venture with Australian listed companies, Comet Ridge and AJ Lucas Group, to pursue conventional oil and gas opportunities as well as coal seam gas projects in an Area of Mutual Interest (AMI) incorporating the States of Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico and Utah, USA (Rocky Mountain project area).
