Sands Corp. will increase the operations of its CotaiJet high-speed ferry service between Hong Kong and Macau.
The company has been awarded a new 10-year license by the Macau Special Administrative Region to add stops at the main Macau Ferry Terminal.
Originally, the casino operator began the ferry service to connect Hong Kong with the Taipa Ferry Terminal -- which is located just minutes from the Cotai Strip, where the company operates the Venetian Macau and is in the process of restarting construction efforts on four additional hotels.
High-speed ferry service is a major means of transportation between Macau from Hong Kong. The trips across the South China Sea take about an hour.
Under the new license, Las Vegas Sands is able to increase the number of daily roundtrips, including a maximum of 35 daily roundtrips between Hong Kong Ferry Terminal and the Taipa-Cotai terminal.
Las Vegas Sands will add six daily roundtrips between Hong Kong International Airport and the Macau and Taipa-Cotai ferry terminals and three roundtrips between Kowloon, Hong Kong and the Taipa-Cotai terminal.
"Opening new routes and increasing capacity from Hong Kong to Macau will facilitate the growth of the meetings, incentive, convention, and exhibition business by seamlessly linking the Hong Kong airport and other points of arrival and departure to the Cotai Strip," said Steve Jacobs, chief executive officer of Sands China Ltd., a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands.
