Macrovision drops on 2002 outlook
Futures point to weak open; TMP gains

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) - Shares of Macrovision slumped in pre-open trading Thursday after the company reiterated its previous warning for the fourth quarter, and provided a 2002 outlook that was below expectations.

Elsewhere, stock futures indicated a negative start to U.S. share markets and TMP Worldwide edged up.

Macrovision slumps

Macrovision (MVSN: news, chart, profile) dropped $2.30, or 6.1 percent, to $35.50 in Instinet. The maker of encryption software said fourth-quarter earnings would be sequentially flat with third quarter results, which came in at 20 cents a share on revenue of $23 million.

For fiscal 2002, the company said it was expecting pro forma earnings of between 84 cents per share and 88 cents per share on revenue of between $102 million and $108 million, while analysts had been forecasting EPS of 89 cents on revenue of $120 million.

Futures fumble

December S&P futures slumped 4.70 to 1,133.30, or about 4-points below fair value. Nasdaq 100 futures were down 9.50, or about 12 3/4-points below fair value, at 1,658.50.

The "triple Qs" (QQQ: news, chart, profile), a tracking stock for the Nasdaq 100 Index ($NDX: news, chart, profile), slipped 16 cents to $41.40 in Instinet.

TMP Worldwide sees gains

TMP Worldwide (TMPW: news, chart, profile) tacked on 95 cents to $46 in Instinet, after Yahoo (YHOO: news, chart, profile) offered late Wednesday to buy online employment site HotJobs.com for $10.50 per share, or $436 million in stock and cash, trumping TMP's bid.
