Duisenberg warns against further breaches of EU stability pact 21.09.2003 19:09 Headlines
FRANKFURT (AFX) - European Central Bank president Wim Duisenberg has warned
euro zone member states, particularly Germany and France, not to breach the EU
stability and growth pact again.
"It would be bad for the credibility of the EU, of the monetary union, and
of the country that is breaking the rule," Duisenberg told Handelsblatt in a
pre-released article.
Germany and France are in breach of the pact's deficit limit of 3 pct of
GDP, and are expected to remain in breach in 2004 for a third year in
succession.
