Dell Computer (DELL) reported fourth-quarter net income of $456 million, or 17 cents a share, on revenue of $8.1 billion. During the same quarter last year, net income was $434 million, or 16 cents a share, on revenue of $8.67 billion. On Jan. 18, with less than two weeks before the end of its fourth quarter, Dell said it expected to earn 17 cents a share on revenue of $8 billion. Previously, Dell said it would earn 16 cents a share on sales of $7.6 billion. Ahead of the results, shares ended down 94 cents, or 3.4 percent, to $26.40. According to a statement, for the first quarter, Dell said unit volumes and revenue will fall 3 percent to 5 percent with per-share earnings of 16 cents.
