.US wind turbine manufacturer GE says it has received 1GW of new orders in the US since the extension of the production tax credit on 1 January 2013.
The company says that a strong US order backlog "positions GE for 2013".
"We've had an incredible response from customers following the introduction of our brilliant wind turbine platform and game-changing short-term energy storage facilities," says new vice-president of GE's renewable energy business Anne McEntee.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the wind industry and look forward to driving GE's technology leadership further in this space."
GE has introduced new 1.7-100 and 2.5-120 machines as the first of its "Brilliant" wind turbines.
The turbines feature electrical system upgrades and use "industrial internet" technology, which connect data points to allow a more intelligent response to wind conditions.
Last week, GE also announced that developer Invenergy will install three GE 2.5-120 turbines with integrated energy storage at its Mills County wind farm in Texas.
GE says the 2.5-120 is the first wind turbine to incorporate short-term battery storage as part of the complete turbine package.
