Smith Barney believes 1Q04 results should cement the underlying theme of greater integration within the telecom universe with Sprint pulling together its trackers, Cingular buying AWE, and bundle offers expanding. Integrated telecoms should continue to strike back by improving near-term revenue trends and managing favorable margins. Wireless should post favorable additions on wider credit policies and momentum of family plan and prepaid sales. They expect long-distance fundamentals to remain weak given current pricing conditions and intensifying competition. They recommend VZ as their best name going into 2Q04 and like the upside for BLS. They recommend investors sell T, WWCA, TPC and USM.
