Nokia helps senior management at global mail, express and logistics company TNT to keep abreast of schedules and messages
Berlin, Germany and Espoo, Finland - Nokia and TNT announced today, that TNT has chosen the Nokia 9500 Communicator to provide 230 top senior managers with mobile access to PIM, e-mail, and instant messaging through pocket-sized handsets that combine the best features of cell phones and laptops.
Nokia has worked with TNT to define provisioning, setup processes and to create tools so the company could deploy the Nokia 9500 Communicators. Nokia helped TNT with test process, tools and methodology as well as with ongoing support preparations.
"The Nokia 9500 Communicator's functionality and Nokia's mobile communications experience are a very persuasive combination," said Jim Flood, Architecture & Technology Services Manager, TNT. " At TNT we are used to quick turnaround times and fast delivery, so by improving mobile accessibility Nokia provides fast, convenient access to messages and documents. This is essential for the communication of and with our senior managers. They can use the Nokia 9500 Communicator to stay abreast of their messages and schedules throughout the day."
The Nokia 9500 Communicator features a full keyboard, large color display and complete cell phone functions. IBM WebSphere forms a backbone of the solution, including WebSphere Everyplace Connection Manager software (WECM), WebSphere Everyplace Access software WEA, and IBM Lotus Sametime. WECM offers seamless cross-network roaming, network choice, high security and automatic bandwidth optimization. WEA is IBM's Integrated Mobile Application Platform, which connects to multiple applications, personal information manager (PIM), e-mail, business data stored in databases and enterprise applications. IBM Lotus Sametime software delivers the instant messaging capabilities.
The combined solution allows TNT's senior managers full access to their e-mail, attachments, calendars and contact information. In Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asia, the tri-band Nokia 9500 Communicator enables TNT senior management connect to their home networks on all five continents regardless of the local wireless service. The large display and full keyboard make it easier for TNT senior managers to read and respond to messages, author and edit documents.
TNT plans to expand its Nokia 9500 Communicator deployment with more users and more applications over the coming months. Nokia will continue to provide support for the deployment.
"TNT is an innovative company that gives us a great opportunity to demonstrate how much value truly mobile communications can deliver", Klaus Seibold, director, Mobility Solutions, Enterprise Solution, Nokia. "We're looking forward to helping them expand their user community and adapting more applications for mobile use."
