DETROIT, MI -- (Marketwire) -- 01/19/11 -- At the Super Bowl of auto presentations, the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, boutique manufacturer Li-ion Motors (OTCBB: LMCO) (FRANKFURT: LL9L) ran with the big cats from the Motor City, Germany, Italy, England, France and Sweden, garnering media and industry acclaim for the all-electric Inizio supercar and the Progressive Insurance Automotive X-Prize winning Wave II.

The Daytona 500 of auto shows opened with two days of media preview for over 5100 credentialed broadcast, print and online journalists from around the world.
Li-ion Motors (OTCBB: LMCO) presented its two original all-electric vehicles, the Wave II, which averaged 187 MPGe in on track testing on the way to winning the Progressive Insurance Automotive X-Prize competition in 2010, and the world's fastest all-electric supercar, the Inizio. Both vehicles are moving into production for consumer sales in 2011.
Describing the hottest cars at the show Forbes said, "The real lookers in Detroit this year are electric. Tesla's Roadster, Mercedes-Benz's SLS AMG E-Cell and the Li-ion Inizio are some of the best."
Online auto site TorqueNews gushed, "Who said that all-electric cars had to be dull? Inizio makes the future come alive right now. The Inizio high-end electric transportation defines fast for the next generation."
Tech site Engadget called the Inizio, "a proper supercar of the electric variety" while ExecDigital noted that "Porsche's 918 RSR Hybrid supercar got significant buzz and the Inizio from Li-ion Motors is getting the same kind of press."
In its review CNET.com said the Inizio is "probably the only all-electric supercar."
The NAIAS preview week included two industry days that let slip a flood of more than 10,500 manufacturer and supplier engineers, designers, and executives who descended like a locust swarm throughout the Cobo Center, devouring every miniscule detail of what the competition is doing. It was no different at the Li-ion booth where every facet of the Inizio's motor, drivetrain, seats, Lamborghini-style up and away doors and other features were poked, prodded and scrutinized by reps from Ford, GM, Toyota, BYD, Mercedes, and others. That such a car could be 100% electric brought appreciative stares while words and phrases such as "amazing" and "impressive" were frequently heard.
The public portion of the show which runs through January 23rd drew over a quarter million people over the first three days, many seeing electric vehicles for the first time.
Located between the massive displays of Ford, incorporated in 1903, or GM, begun in 1908, the Mooresville, North Carolina based Li-ion Motors may not currently be a household name but it has ten years of expertise in the conversion of gas-powered vehicles to electric leading up to the development of the Wave II and Inizio.
Forbes noted that, "North Carolina based company Li-ion has no iconic history to maintain but the look of the 'Inizio' indicates it's moving in the right direction," and continued, "But if this is the future of cars, the future looks very bright indeed."
