Seguridad Satelital Vehicular (SSV) is a major supplier of tracking devices and services to the Mexican government and specializes in telematics. The contract between SecureAlert and SSV calls for SSV to purchase 10,000 TrackerPAL units for $6 million over a 16-month period of time. SecureAlert agrees to give SSV proprietary know how in modifying SSV's current monitoring center in order to track parolees in Mexico. In turn, SSV will pay SecureAlert $2 per day per parolee that SSV tracks using the TrackerPAL system.

Our contractual relationship with Seguridad Satelital Vehicular is an ideal solution for SecureAlert as it helps solve this international problem without SecureAlert having to incur the cost and expense of setting up monitoring centers in every country. In den vergangenen Wochen präsentierte sich das Management unseres Musterdepotwertes RemoteMDx (WKN 912583) vor Fondsmanagern in New York und London. Blickt man auf den Kursverlauf, scheint dies ein voller Erfolg gewesen zu sein. Die Aktie eilt unter hohen Umsätzen von einem Höchstkurs zum nächsten. Zwischendurch eine kurze Konsolidierung bei dünnen Umsätzen ist nur gesund. Am Mittwoch war eine massive Eisberg-Kauforder bei 3,00 USD zu beobachten. Alles was heraus kam, wurde einfach aufgesaugt.

In den USA managen 13.000 Strafverfolgungsbehörden mehr als 7 Mio. Straftäter, davon befinden sich 2,2 Mio. im Gefängnis und kosten den Staat durchschnittlich 88 USD pro Tag. 5 Mio. Straftäter genießen Haftaussetzung bzw. befinden sich auf Bewährung, wobei 70 Prozent dieser Gruppe innerhalb von drei Jahren wieder ein Verbrechen verüben. Jährliche Ausgaben von mehr als 70 Mrd. USD haben den Anstieg der Kriminalität und die finanzielle Belastung für die Behörden nicht stoppen können. Statistischen Angaben zufolge ist die Population in US-amerikanischen Gefängnissen und Strafanstalten seit 1970 von 190.000 Insassen auf mehr als 2,2 Mio. in 2005 angewachsen.

Betrachten wir einmal die einzelnen Teilmärkte. Von rund 4,92 Mio. US-Erwachsenen, die sich auf Bewährung befinden, leben rund 530.000 in Texas und 495.000 in Kalifornien. Darüber hinaus gibt es noch 100.000 jugendliche Straftäter (17.000 in Kalifornien, 8.000 in Florida). Fast 25 Prozent der rund 560.000 Sexualstraftäter sind in Kalifornien und Texas registriert. Bei den noch nicht verurteilten Angeklagten (rund 100.000) haben diese beiden Bundesstaaten ebenfalls die Nase vorn. Insgesamt wird von mehr als 725.000 Angehörige von Jugendbanden ausgegangen. Auf den vordersten Plätzen finden sich hier Kalifornien, Illinois und Texas.

Außerdem wurden in 2003 rund 1,3 Mio. Fälle von häuslicher Gewalt aufgezeichnet. Erschreckende 80 Prozent der Frauen, die Opfer von Stalking-Attacken durch ihre ehemaligen Ehemänner sind, wurden auch physisch angegriffen. Die Kosten für Gewaltakte vertrauter Partner übersteigen 5,8 Mrd. USD pro Jahr! Last but not least gibt es auch noch 1,4 Mio. Fälle, in denen übermäßiger Alkoholgenuss teilweise zu schweren Unfällen führte. Ein Drittel aller Fahrer, die dabei erwischt wurden, sind Wiederholungstäter.

Bevor RemoteMDx mit seiner elektronischen Fußfessel im Markt auftauchte, wurden neue Technologien im US-Strafjustizsystem kaum eingesetzt. Der sogenannte Hausarrest-Markt (rund 100.000 Verurteilte) ist antiquiert und überholt. Anfängliche Versionen von mobilen Tracking-Geräten waren zu groß und in ihrem Wirkungskreis eingeschränkt. Des Weiteren bescherten diese Geräte den zuständigen Überwachungsbeamten mehr und nicht weniger Arbeit.

Die positiven Auswirkungen des TrackerPal-Systems von RemoteMDx sind Unternehmensangaben zufolge enorm: es reduziert die Rückfallquote um mehr als 30 Prozent; die Rehabilitation von Straftätern erfolgt wesentlich kostengünstiger und ohne das Stigma der Inhaftierung. Für dieselben Kosten, die woanders ein Tag Hausarrest-Überwachung kostet, kann das TrackerPal-System den Straffälligen einen ganzen Tag rund um die Uhr in Echtzeit kontrollieren. Jedes Jahr erscheinen beispielsweise 200.000 vorgeladene Verbrecher nicht vor Gericht und kosten den Staat damit 8.500 USD pro Straftäter. TrackerPal kann hingegen das Erscheinen vor Gericht erzwingen und das Verhalten der Verbrecher ändern.

RemoteMDx leitet offensichtlich einen Paradigmenwechsel im US-Justizsystem ein. Der Fokus der TrackerPal liegt darauf, den Straffälliger wieder in die Gesellschaft zu integrieren. Die Kontrolle erfolgt sieben Tage die Woche, rund um die Uhr, egal wo er ist. Überwachende Beamte werden nur im Falle einer Übertretung der Regeln verständigt. Beim TrackerPal ist auch erstmals eine wechselseitige Kommunikation möglich. Mit einer speziellen Technologie hilft RemoteMDx den Behörden ebenfalls dabei, herauszufinden, ob ein Straffälliger sich in der Nähe eines neuen Tatortes aufgehalten hat. Bei den marktüblichen Hausarrest-Geräten weiß niemand, wo der Straffällige ist, wenn er das Haus verlassen hat!

Wie hoch sind eigentlich die Markteintrittsbarrieren für Wettbewerber? Die Kosten für die Errichtung eines Überwachungscenters vergleichbar mit dem von RemoteMDx liegen bei über 50 Mio. USD. Die Entwicklung eines konkurrenzfähigen Produktes wäre sehr zeitaufwendig und kostenintensiv.

RemoteMDx hat hier den „First Mover“-Vorteil - man war zuerst am Markt. Je bekannter RemoteMDX wird, desto mehr Kunden müsste das Unternehmen rein theoretisch gewinnen. Neben den heimischen Erlösen dürfte RemoteMDx zudem Lizenzeinnahmen von Verträgen mit ausländischen Kunden (Mexiko, Puerto Rico) erhalten.

Allein in den USA liegt das Marktpotenzial für RemoteMDx bei mehr als 15 Mrd. USD pro Jahr. Es deutet alles darauf hin, dass das Unternehmen in der Lage ist, einen Paradigmenwechsel im US-Justizmarkt einzuleiten und somit dieses Potenzial auch teilweise zu heben. Auch die Gesetzgebung spielt RemoteMDx in die Karten. Beispielsweise erfüllt nur das System von RemoteMDx die Anforderungen des Adam Walsh-Gesetzes. Zudem schwillt das Auftragsbuch immer weiter an. In der Verkaufspipeline für 2008 befinden sich knapp 61.000 Geräte, darunter 3.000 für Puerto Rico. Alles deutet darauf hin, dass RemoteMDx in den nächsten Jahren die ertragreiche Ernte seiner Arbeit einfahren wird.

Als Ziele für das kommende Jahr nennt das Management: Steigerung der Profitabilität auf 77(!) Prozent; 40.000 abrechenbare Einheiten im Markt; Fokus auf die Expansion von Produkten und Dienstleistungen (Heimarrest-Markt; Lösungsanbieter); Konzentration auf die Stabilisierung des Cashflows ohne die Aktionäre zu verwässern sowie Fokus auf der Generierung wiederkehrender Umsätze. In 2009 will das Unternehmen bei einem Umsatz von 150 Mio. USD rund 104(!) Mio. USD Gewinn vor Zinsen, Steuern und Abschreibungen einfahren. Die Anzahl der abrechenbaren Einheiten soll auf 65.000 ansteigen.

Aber gehen wir mal noch tiefer ins Detail. Vom dritten auf das vierte Quartal 2007 dürfte das Wachstum von RemoteMDx schwächer ausfallen. Bisher wurden Investoren mit einem explosiven Umsatzabstieg von 100 Prozent von Quartal zu Quartal verwöhnt. Aber die kleine Delle hat auch ihre Gründe. 6.000 Einheiten mussten aufgrund eines defekten Chips sowie dem Eintritt von Wasser zurückgerufen werden. Dies hat das Umsatzwachstum um rund 90 Tage nach hinten geworfen. Weitere 9.000 Einheiten wurden zudem für den Hausarrest-Markt umgebaut.

Im ersten Quartal 2008 dürften dann die reparierten sowie umgebauten Einheiten wieder verfügbar sein. Mitte nächsten Jahres sollen dann 22.500 Einheiten im Einsatz sein. Dann soll auch das neue Produkt VictimPal auf den Markt gebracht werden. Damit hat man erstmals eine Möglichkeit den Markt gegen häusliche Gewalt anzugehen und den Opfern zu helfen. Dabei wird man landesweit durch die Jane Doe Foundation unterstützt. Anfang 2009 dürfte auch die Überwachung im Hinblick auf Alkohol- und auf Drogenmissbrauch möglich sein. Hier hat sich ein enormer Bedarf angestaut. Dies bietet ebenfalls die Chance die Preise anzuheben. Ende 2009 sollen dann 65.000 Einheiten im Einsatz sein.
Bisher hat RemoteMDx 123,7 Mio. Aktien ausgegeben. Durch die Ausübung von Optionen dürften dem Unternehmen zukünftig noch rund 24 Mio. USD zufließen. Die voll verwässerte Aktienanzahl läge dann bei 138,4 Mio. Aktien. Der Börsenwert von RemoteMDx liegt derzeit bei rund 380 Mio. USD. Sehr wichtig für die Kursentwicklung ist die starke Unterstützung durch einige institutionelle Investoren, die das enorme Potenzial von RemoteMDx bereits erkannt haben.

Noch steckt RemoteMDx in den Kinderschuhen. Sollte das Unternehmen seine Prognosen einhalten können, dann dürfte die Aktie in eine milliardenschwere Bewertung hineinwachsen. Gefängnisstrafe zu Hause

In Anbetracht überfüllter Gefängnisse wird auch in europäischen Ländern der zunehmende Einsatz elektronischer Fußfesseln geprüft. Bei diesem Verfahren wird den Verurteilten ein Instrument, das äußerlich einer großen Armbanduhr gleicht, am Fußgelenk befestigt. Es übermittelt einer Zentrale permanent den Aufenthaltsort seines Trägers. In den USA ist dieses "Gefängnis ohne Gitterstäbe" bereits für 100.000 Straftäter Wirklichkeit.

Sträfling mit elektronischer Fußfessel
In der Absicht, einen härteren Kurs in Sachen Strafvollzug zu fahren, verabschiedete die frisch gewählte konservative UMP-Mehrheit in Frankreich erste Maßnahmen. In Kürze wird ein groß angelegtes Vorhaben zur Schaffung neuer Gefängnisse beginnen. Das steht im Widerspruch zu einer Empfehlung des Ministerkomitees des Europarates vom 30. September 1999, in der dazu geraten wird, Gefängnisstrafen Alternativen wie die elektronische Überwachung vorzuziehen.

Gemessen an den 61.500 Gefängnisinsassen, ist dieses neue "Gefängnis ohne Gitterstäbe" eine Randerscheinung in Frankreich und in der Öffentlichkeit kaum bekannt. Hier sind bislang nur ca. 2.500 elektronische Fußfesseln im Einsatz. Sie ermöglichen es ihren Trägern, ihre Strafen zu Hause und nicht in überfüllten Gefängnissen zu verbüßen. In den nächsten drei Jahren sollen 5.000 weitere Fußfesseln hinzukommen. Mit ihrer zunehmenden Nutzung stellt sich die Frage nach der Grenze zwischen öffentlichem und privatem Raum. Denn bei diesem Verfahren reicht die Kontrolle des Individuums durch die Strafvollzugsbehörden bis in die Privatsphäre. Manche halten den elektronisch überwachten Hausarrest nicht aus und gehen lieber wieder ins Gefängnis.

Die Fußfessel ähnelt einer großen Uhr, die diskret und schmerzfrei am Fußgelenk befestigt wird. In den USA verbüßen bereits 100.000 Kriminelle ihre Strafe auf diese Weise, in Großbritannien sind es fast 30.000. Die dort gewonnen Erfahrungen werden nun in anderen Ländern auf ihre Übertragbarkeit geprüft. Die Dokumentation zeigt an einem Beispiel aus Denver/Colorado, was möglicherweise in naher Zukunft auf Europa zukommt.

Schon erstaunlich wie die Aktie unter dem Radar fliegt. Ist aber besser so, ansonsten kommen nur zu schnell zu viele zittrigen Hände in Spiel.

"der aktionär" soll die mal schön übersehen...die können von mir aus bei 10 usd anfangen zu schreiben Wenn die Aktie 5 USD überwinden sollte, dann steht wohl ein Wechsel zur Nasdaq bevor und einige wussten es mal wieder vorher.  Das einzige ärgerliche ist Euro/USD Entwicklung, aber solange remotemdx schneller steigt als der dollar fällt

Wird wohl nicht mehr lange dauern, sollten aber ganz gut ausfallen, wenn man den Kurs als Indikator nimmt. Zu sehr verrückt sollte man sich aber über Quartalszahlen auch nicht machen, da kann halt immer auch mal was daneben gehen, schließlich sind wir alle nur Menchen und die machen nun mal auch hier und da mal Fehler. Wichtig ist der große Trend!

Wenn ich richtig informiert bin, müssen us-unternehmen spätestens 45 tage nach quartalsende den quartalsbericht bringen - ansonsten müssen sie bei der sec ein late-filing machen - dann haben sie weitere 14 tage zeit - bei rmdx kam weder das eine noch das andere...komisch, vielleicht hat man mehr zeit, wenn man ein listing an einem höheren börsensegment schon beantragt hat?

aufgrund des rückrufs von geräten erwarte ich kein starkes umsatzwachstum von q2 auf q3. so wie der kurs aktuell läuft, dürfte man in Q4 zum enormen wachstum zurückgekehrt sein. an der börse wird die zukunft gehandelt und da erwarte ich einen megaschub...ab 1 mrd. börsenwert geht der spaß doch erst los!

Convict-tagging gives Desmond rapid €25m gain

BILLIONAIRE financier Dermot Desmond has seen the value of his stake in a US convict-tagging company quadruple in just eight months.

Desmond's IIU is listed as holding a 9.84 per cent stake in Utah security firm Remote MDX. Shares in the business have sky-rocketed from just $1 in February to a record high of just over $4 last Friday, valuing the company at $494m (€335m).

Desmond's stake is now worth around €33m -- an increase of nearly €25m in eight months.

The financier's gains could be even higher, given that Remote MDX shares traded at below 25 cent back in 2005.

The billionaire's involvement in the company has never been publicised before.

Remote MDX is involved in GPS and location monitoring technologies for the law enforcement sector. It also develops monitoring systems for the elderly.

Latest results from the firm show that its operating revenues soared a staggering 13-fold on the same quarter last year to over €2.2m.

This hike in sales is down to the fact that its tagging products have been embraced by the law enforcement sector.

Since January, some 250  security agencies have signed up to use its SecureAlert TrackerPal offender tracking devices.

These include private probation firms. One of these, Florida based Court Program Inc, has agreed to tag a large number of the 7,000 offenders it monitors every day.

Desmond's punt on Remote MDX may come close to matching the extraordinary returns generated on his investment in London City Airport.

The IFSC based tycoon bought London City Airport for a modest €32m in 1995. He sold it to a US consortium for over €1bn last year.

Desmond's portfolio ranges from health insurer Vivas to Glasgow Celtic football Club and US Homeland Security contractor Daon.

He has also made a fortune by building up shares in Irish plcs and selling them on. He banked millions in profits from deals at Golden Vale and Greencore in recent years.

So wie ich das verstehe ist er so bei ca. 0.66 eingestiegen (12. Mio Aktien, Wert ca. 8 Mio). Der Artikel spricht ja von einer Vervierfachung. War wohl einer der ganz frühen Investoren, da hat er wieder mal den Braten als erster gerochen.

Schau auf den Chart. Die Aktie war in den letzten 12 monaten nicht unter 1,07 usd...kann desmond zaubern? Anstieg von 25 Mio. Euro in 8 Monaten - und das trotz währungsverlusten euro/usd? über private placement? wohl kaum - letzte finanzierung war ende 06 zu 2,00 USD. oder er hatte irgendwelche vorzugsaktien aus ganz alten finanzierungen, die er in normale aktien umgewandelt hat? egal, hauptsache er ist mit an bord!  

manchmal sieht man den wald vor lauter bäumen nicht. da geschäftsjahr per 30.9. endet, ist ja jetzt der geschäftsbericht fällig und nicht "nur" ein quartalsbericht...denke das dauert noch bis Mitte/Ende Dezember...

Das gefällt mir an RemoteMDX so gut. Keine großen Sprüche, die dann hinterher nicht eingehalten werden, wie man das bei so vielen anderen Unternehem sieht. Die lassen Taten sprechen. Die Stärke ist schon beeindruckend, allerdings schreit der Kurs geradezu nach einer Konsolidierung, würde mich also nicht wundern, wenn es demnächst mal 20-30% nach unten geht. Ansonsten kann man nur eins sagen: Laufen lassen, die machen ihren Weg!

Da haben wohl einige kalte Füße bekommen und die schönen Gewinne der letzten Monate mal mitgenommen. Das früher oder später nach diesem tollen Anstieg eine Konsolidierung kommen musste war mir klar, nur das es so heftig ausfallen würde ist überraschend. Was für mich zählt die die langfristige Perspektive und an der hat sich nichts geändert.

Letztlich zählt der Umsatz und der daraus resultierende Gewinn und da läuft alles nach Plan:

Remote MDx, Inc. (RMDX) and its subsidiary, SecureAlert, Inc., develop and market monitoring and surveillance products and services to the criminal justice system throughout the United States. On Friday Dec 28th, the stock had another wild day, trading from $3.02 to a high of $3.70 with 5.5 million shares changing hands.  The previous day, the stock lost nearly 20% of its value as it moved down from over $4.00 to under $3.20 at one point during the day with an exceptionally high 5 million+ shares traded.  The stock has recently broken convincingly through its 50 day moving average price of $3.79, and is now in danger of testing its 200-day moving average price of $2.38.  Traders should watch these key support levels to see where the stock will find a footing.  With a market cap nearing $450 million and revenues of only $3.2 million, investors should be very cautious as long-term profitability is very questionable.

FALLS Q1 des GJ 2007/2008 nicht mit äußerst positiven Zahlen überrascht, ist die Marketcap m.E. kaum zu halten.

Das es bei neuen Produkten Kinderkrankheiten gibt, die sich erst noch auswachsen müssen, das halte ich für normal. Auch das die Planzahlen meistens zu hoch angesetzt werden ist leider meistens üblich, dient wohl oft eher dazu die Motivation der eigenen Mitarbeiter anzustacheln. Börsianer sind ein nervöses Völkchen, da wird jeder Furtz gleich hochgekocht.
Man darf einfach nicht zu viel auf einmal erwarten, das braucht alles seine Zeit. Die Richtung stimmt, darauf kommt es an. Die Bewertung ist ambitioniert, keine Frage, aber gute Unternehmen sind meistens teuer. Darüber mache ich mir erst Gedanken in 2-3 Jahren, wenn die 40.000 Einheiten installiert sind.

Mag alles sein, aber der Börsenwert ist nun einmal schon verdammt hoch.

Working capital during the quarter increased to $3,708,000 from $2,568,000 and total assets increased to $21,988,000 -- up over $6,700,000 from the September 30, 2007 quarter.

RemoteMDx's 2008 Business Plan calls for revenues for the calendar year ending December 31, 2008 to total $49,000,000 with a run rate of revenues in excess of $100 million by year's end. Correspondingly, operating income of $10 million and a run rate in operating income of $56 million is also projected by year's end. The Plan requires no further dilution to shareholders. In order to achieve these numbers the Company must continue to focus its resources on expanding its sales and products, improving its monitoring center technology, and negotiate more cost effective communication costs. It forecasts that it will have an extraordinary loss for the March 31st quarter due to the redemption of its SecureAlert Series A Preferred which by so doing, will increase future profitability by over 30%. The June 30 quarter will post an overall profit that will continue to grow. By year's end the Plan calls for the Company monitoring approximately 40,000 offenders that represents less than 1% of the number of offenders on parole or probation.
