Hi,

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Amid the broad sell-off in Internet-related issues,
shares of interQ Inc. (9449) plunged to 2,600 yen at one point
Friday. They had gone as high as 98,000 yen in February.
The stock split 2 for 1 in late June, but selling by individual and
foreign investors continues as they give up hope.
Earnings, however, have been solid. For the first quarter of the year
ending December, interQ reported a pretax profit of about 300
million yen, more than double on the year. Revenue nearly doubled
as the number of subscribers to its Internet access services jumped
by 160% to 89,500. Earnings are expected to grow in the second
quarter as well.
Outside its core Internet access business, interQ has been
expanding its e-mail services, including advertising. The stock's
decline reflects pessimism about the earnings potential of these
new services, says Hideyuki Suzuki, deputy director of research at
World Nichiei Securities Co.
InterQ shares had risen on strong expectations for the Internet
company's business. Even at their current depressed level, they
trade at more than 140 times expected earnings per share for this
fiscal year. Without some type of very positive news, the stock is
unlikely to fully rebound, says an equity sales manager at a
midsize brokerage.
