Shares of the ETF rose a 5 cents to $20.09 in Thursday trading.
Exchange-traded funds trade during the day like stocks and are usually based on existing stock-market indexes, like a basket of equities with one overall price.
First Trust Advisors is the adviser to the fund, distributed in turn by First Trust Portfolios.
Dan Waldron, vice president of ETF Product Development for First Trust Advisors, said the fund is oriented toward retail investors who don't usually get access to IPOs at their offering price.
"We've noticed a tremendous change in the IPO market" with a better slate of companies with better bottom lines and longer track records, he said.
