In a press release Monday, the company said the device can be used to treat retinal conditions, such as choroidal neovascularization, age-related macular degeneration, retinopathy of prematurity and intraocular tumors. A company representative wasn't immediately available to discuss marketing plans now that the approval has been granted.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Shares of Lumenis (LUME) soared as much as 85 percent in after-hours trading action Monday after the company said it had received FDA approval to market its Novus TTx laser product for the treatment of eye disease. Shares rose $1.08 to touch $2.35 in late dealings.
