Ankündigung wahr gemacht: Iamgold schluckt Trewlaney Mining für 585 Mio. Dollar
Trelawney becomes largest shareholder of Ontario junior gold explorer Newcastle Minerals
Mon 10:30 am by Joyanta Acharjee
Newcastle Minerals (CVE:NCM) Monday confirmed a deal that sees Trelawney Mining and Exploration (CVE:TRR) become a "significant" major shareholder.
Victoria, B.C.-based Newcastle has closed a non-brokered private placement of 10 million units at a price of 5 cents each with Trelawney.
The deal between Newcastle - which has a market capitalization of just under $7 million - and Trelawney - which has a market cap of almost $400 million -makes Trelawney the largest shareholder in Newcastle.
Newcastle’s President Michael Romanik said: "We welcome Trelawney Mining and Exploration as a strategic Newcastle shareholder.
"We expect to develop a productive, long-term relationship with Trelawney, including the sharing of insights with respect to Newcastle’s Swayze Belt claims to help us realize the full potential of our projects."
Speaking to Proactive Investors, Romanik said that he was "happy" to have Trelawney as a key shareholder. Romanik said that his company was "well funded" and is planning an early spring exploration program in order to generate further drilling targets.
Both Newcastle and Trelawney are active in Northern Ontario's Swayze Greenstone Belt, thought to be the southwestern extension of the prolific gold-producing Abitibi Greenstone Belt. Following last year's successful takeover of Augen Gold, Trelawney now controls a 55-km strike-length of the Swayze Belt.
Newcastle’s 100 percent-owned Swayze belt claims cover an area of 17,000 acres in three separate claim blocks that are either surrounded or adjoin Trelawney's projects.
Within the Swayze Belt, Newcastle's 6,600-hectare Chester Project is less than a kilometer away from Trelawney's main asset, the Côté Lake deposit.
A 1,050 metre drill program at Chester encountered anomalous gold and similar alteration and fracturing as that found at Côté Lake.
Côté Lake itself hosts an NI 43-101 indicated resource of 35 million tonnes averaging 0.82 grams per tonne (g/t) for contained gold
of 0.93 million ounces and inferred resource of 204 million tonnes averaging 0.91 g/t for 5.94 million ounces of contained gold.
Newcastle's Neville/Potier property comprises 15,480 acres in the middle of Trelawney's land package while its 1,480-acre Mollie
River property adjoins the east of Trelawney's Côté Lake.
The junior explorer is planning a spring exploration program in Ontario's Swayze Belt that will include geophysical surveys and
diamond drilling to follow up on encouraging prior results.
Newcastle's other properties are the 120-hectare Carscallen Property in the West Timmins area of Ontario and the 11,100-hectare
Pickle Lake Property in northwestern Ontario.
Pickle Lake, which adjoins the past-producing Central Patricia mine, comprises a 27,000-acre land position tied onto both ends of
PC Gold's (TSE:PKL) Pickle Crow mine trend.
Ontario's Pickle Lake greenstone belt itself saw over 2.2 million ounces of gold extracted from three mines between 1934 to 1996.
Newcastle Minerals' shares closed up 16 percent Friday at $0.07 while Trelawney’s shares ended the session at $2.36
