GHRI progress is on track to prevent 150 million customer outage minutes in 2026

HOUSTON, Oct. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, CenterPoint Energy released its latest GHRI update on the monumental progress it is making to build the most resilient coastal grid in the nation. As of Sept. 30, nearly 3,000 crew members are currently mobilized across the Greater Houston area on GHRI and have installed more than 83,500 storm-resilient poles, cleared more than 14,000 miles of higher-risk vegetation to reduce storm-related outages and undergrounded 900 miles of power lines to strengthen overall resiliency. Given the current progress of the company's resiliency efforts, CenterPoint's GHRI program is projected to prevent 150 million customer outage minutes in 2026, while also improving day-to-day reliability.

GHRI 2026 Progress: Critical Resiliency Improvements to Date
Since launching the GHRI in August 2024, CenterPoint Energy has completed a series of resiliency improvements across its 12-county Greater Houston service area, including:

  • Installing 83,500+ stronger, storm-resilient poles to better withstand extreme weather;
  • Trimming or removing 14,000+ miles of higher-risk vegetation near power lines to reduce storm-related outages;
  • Installing 850+ automation devices capable of self-healing to reduce the impact of outages and improve restoration times; and
  • Undergrounding 900+ miles of power lines to strengthen overall grid resiliency.
