Die Polyäthylenproduktion deckt 50% des Bedarfs am heimischen Markt ab. Während der russische Anteil an der Weltproduktion von untergeordneter Bedeutung ist, erreicht das Unternehmen beachtliche 1.5%. PE ist ein kostengünstiger Kunstoff auf Basis von Erdöl und Steinkohle, dessen Festigkeit, Kälteresistenz, Umweltverträglichkeit und Isolierfähigkeit einen weiten Anwendungsbereich ermöglichen. Je nach Polymerisationsgrad erscheint es sowohl ölig, als auch wachsartig oder fest. Tatar-American Investments & Finance (TAIF, Kazan) has consolidated 33.22% stocks of Kazanorgsintez, the latter said.

TAIF was set up in 1995 as a joint venture of Tatarstan (state-run stake at 50.01%) and US NKS Trading Inc. The Group unites 33 enterprises and is operating in 5 major fields, inc. finance market, telecommunication, construction, services, refining and petrochemistry.

TAIF has been Tatneft core trader since the second half of 90s. It holds stakes in major enterprises of Tatarstan (7% Tatneft, 11% Nizhnekamskneftekhim, 7.5% Nizhnekamsk Refinery).

Kazanorgsintez (long-term BUY) to buy its
own shares on the market
The supervisory board of the Tatarstan petrochemical
company, Kazanorgsintez (RTS: KZOS), approved
buy-back of its shares on the market. The company
plans to buy back about 4.5% shares of its shares by
May 15, 2004. Major shareholders of Kazanorgsintez
are the Tatarstan investment vehicle, TAIF (33.22%),
the Tatarstan-government industrial holding
Svyazinvestneftekhim (26.6%). The buy-back will
reduce the free float, creating risk for other minority
investors in the company. On the other hand, the
company has potential due to its strong market
position (it controls 43% of the Russian polyethylene
market) and plans to expand its product range. We
keep our long-term BUY recommendation for
company shares, but we emphasize that investments
could become highly speculative.
It was also reported that TAIF has placed its
representatives in Kazanorgsintez management, after
increasing its stake in Kazanorgsintez from 23.16%
to 33.22% in 1Q 2004.
The BoD of Kazanorgsintez (RTS: KZOS), the
Tatarstan petrochemical producer, is recommending
shareholders to increase dividends on common
shares by 8.5 times y-o-y to $0.009 (R0.25) in 2003.
Preferred dividends will be kept at the 2002 level of
$0.009 (R0.25). The Kazanorgsintez AGM will be
held on April 28, 2004.

Kazanorgsintez plans to build the polycarbonate plastics production facility
JSC Kazanorgsintez will implement the project of polycarbonate plastics production, the overall preliminary product "Diphenol A" capacity amounts to 70 000 t/y and the polycarbonate capacity is 65 000 t/y.
These facilities construction is necessary due to the difficult situation with the phenol and acetone production at Kazanorgsintez.

Due to acute shortage and high prices of phenol - benzene feedstock these products yields the lowest margin and during some period are even loss making. Phenol is difficult to transport since it looses its flow properties and its storage life is limited to 3-5 weeks which hamper the sales.

Besides that, the CIS markets including the Russian one do not have domestic commercial production of such plastics as phenol and acetone based polycarbonates.

New technology to be used by the company will permit to convert the low efficient phenol and acetone into valuable product and exclude the application of phosgene, a toxic substance. JSC Kazanorgsintez has sufficient amounts of other feedstock components – ethylene oxide and carbon dioxide gas currently discharged into the air.

Polycarbonate plastics are used to manufacture laser discs, heavy-duty and light windshields and various heat resistant and environment-friendly household items.

Kazanorgsintez has signed an agreement with Univation Technologies

A major Russian PE maker is to triple its capacity to more than half a million tonnes a year through a licensing agreement with Univation Technologies.

Kazanorgsintez will expand two of its existing three Unipol reactors to 220,000tpa each and also add new PE technologies to its slate. Under the licensing deal, the Tatarstan-based company will add Univation’s newest bimodal HDPE film and PE-100 pipe technologies in a programme to be completed in 2006.

“Eastern European PE producers have to upgrade their polyethylene plants and expand their product offering if they want to compete effectively in the world marketplace,” said Leonid Alekhin, chairman of Kazanorgsintez. Houston-based Univation Technologies is a joint venture between ExxonMobil Chemical and Dow Chemical.

Now there are five plants on a territory of 420 hectares. Ethylene plant produces ethylene of various grades as well as propylene, phenol and acetone. The high and low density polyethylene plant produces different types of granulated polyethylene, ninety percent of which is sold and ten percent is processed to make pipes, bags and containers at the plastic production plant. The fifth plant produces organic goods such as various de-emulsifiers, catalysts, initiators and other chemicals with names that sound familiar to chemical industry professionals only though it would be impossible to imagine any chemical enterprise without these chemicals.
We moved around the territory of the complex in a car. By foot it would have taken us about an hour to get to the polyethylene pipe producing plant. The landscape surrounding us was very typical of chemical production -- pipes, big and small, intertwining on the ground and in the air, high and low, merging and channeling off, and lots and lots of cisterns, which the chemical industry professionals call «tanks». The only unusual thing is its expanse.

Polyethylene pipes are one of the enterprises main products. Despite the fact that they account for only four percent of overall production only, the pipes are not the least in significance, quite the opposite in fact. First of all Kazanorgsintez is one of the few producers of polyethylene pipes of various diameter in Russia and it is certainly the biggest producer of polyethylene pipes. Secondly, the issue of replacing steel pipes with polyethylene pipes is significant for all Russians without exceptions.
According to V.S.Romeiko, associate member of the Russian ecology academy, over 70 percent Russias water pipe network fails to meet quality standards as well as basic safety rules. As a result of wear and tear of water pipes Russia looses 314 billion rubles annually, of which the loss of water in transportation accounts for 210 billion, excessive use of electricity required to pump water over rusty and residue-silted pipes accounts for 34 billion, and losses in heating network account for 70 billion. 314 billion rubles is equivalent to 10 billion dollars. This amount is almost the same as the total budget of the country. Many researchers and ecologists believe that the poor state of Russian water pipelines is one of the main reasons for the economic crisis in Russia. Our country's record of the daily drinking water consumption of 500 liters per person results primarily from water loss rather than the wastefulness of our compatriots. A Muscovite taking a bath spends as much water as a New-Yorker taking a Jacuzzi, but despite the fact that Americans are the second biggest water-consuming nation, per capita consumption is only 190 liters, or 2.5 times less.

This stunning gap can be explained exceptionally easily -- steel water pipes are not used in virtually any country of the world. It has been known for a long time that polyethylene pipes are much better than steel ones when a whole range of parameters are compared. Their minimum lifetime is longer several times over, they do not have and cannot have any internal buildup of organic and non-organic residue, they have much better heat insulation, they are more elastic and less prone to fractures. They are better than steel pipes in every respect -- other than being more expensive. Not much more expensive, true. In the old Soviet times the government spared no effort to create a myth that life in the country of Soviets was better than in any other corner of the world. One of the ways to strengthen the myth were laughable prices for water and electricity. While a cubic meter of water cost more than one dollar in various countries of the world (in Holland -- one dollar, in Germany and USA -- 2 dollars, in Denmark -- 3.5 dollars), in Moscow the cost of one cubic meter of water until recently was 90 kopecks, or 3 cents. The Soviet government used all available methods to achieve these unbelievable results, and was not stopped by harming the health of its people. The cheapest materials were used in laying water pipes, no one was concerned that the maximum lifetime of steel pipes is eight years while polyethylene will last fifty years. The country was saving kopecks and wasting much bigger amounts, which came out of peoples earnings.

Sadly, the tradition of laying down steel pipelines is still alive in our country. Many managers are guided by immediate benefits when making decisions and immediate logic tells them that steel pipes are cheaper. Therefore thousands of kilometers of metal are rusting under the ground and the products of metal oxidation are entering our bodies. It does not take long to establish that laying down polyethylene pipes is significantly cheaper than laying steel pipes down since plastic pipes weigh less and are easier to operate. Never mind the task of cleaning and maintenance -- polymeric pipes have an endless number of advantages in this respect. Do you know the amount of various residue types, which are cleaned out during the annual maintenance of steel pipes? The minimum is half a kilogram and the maximum is fifteen kilos of rust, metal bacteria and silicon earth per meter of pipe. Plus there is the cost of pipe replacement, which is traditionally done every five years?
The Kazanorgsintez works produces pipes for water, gas, sewage and other networks. Current output is 35 thousand tons per annum and it keeps growing.
While the Russian economy is going through a crisis the works is still in its growth stage. In 1996 another type of production was launched here: weaving, and this should not be surprising. Shareholders resolved that producing bags for packaging granulated polyethylene would be cheaper than purchasing the bags. The new line produces both polypropylene bags and soft big soft bags (such as those used by shuttle traders). The production went so well that soon the plant was able to sell most of its packaging products to producers of mineral fertilizers and food supplements in a short while.
-- Do you know why we work so well here?» -- asked Shamil, a pipe production equipment operator who has been working at the enterprise for 17 years already. -- «Because our managers are businesslike, they take care of the workers. Not a single person was dismissed during the perestroika years. I earn five to six thousand rubles here, where else would I get a similar salary? The old management was only thinking about itself, but the new management is thinking about people and about the future. It's a pleasure to work for such people, you don't want to fail them.

$840M Sberbank Loan

KAZAN (Prime-Tass) -- Kazanorgsintez polyethylene producer plans to take out an $840 million loan from the country's major state-controlled Sberbank to overhaul its production facilities and to build new ones, the company said Thursday.

The loan is to be disbursed in two tranches.

The first, $420 million tranche with a maturity period of three years will enable the company to triple polyethylene output to 1.25 million tons in 2007.

The company expects its revenues to rise to $945 million by that time from $574 million now, while pretax profit is expected to go up to $377 million from $300 million.

The second tranche will enable the company to increase revenues to $1.35 billion in 2011 and pretax profit to $588 million.

The RF Savings Bank to participate in JSC Kazanorgsintez investment projects
The preliminary negotiations between the Russian Savings Bank, Tatarstan Bank, JSC TAIF and JSC Kazanorgsintez took place in the city of Kazan last week.
The meeting discussed the Savings Bank participation in the Kazanorgsintez investment plans. According to Mr. Volohov, Deputy Director of the Project Financing, RF Savings Bank, that shall be a rather large program, which would help the company inn arranging the financing from Western bankers against the Savings Bank guarantees. The cooperation between the bank and the company is to continue until 2011.

The overall borrowing program will amount to over $800 million and will include two phases. The first phase shall enable Kazanorgsintez to achieve the following performance: commercial production – 1.25 million tons, revenues - $945 million, balance sheet profit – minimum $377 million. The first part of the program will be launched approximately this autumn and will continue until 2007, the loan will amount to $420 million.

When the second phase is completed (approximately from 2007 to 2011, the loan amount - $420 million), the revenue figure shall grow by $404 million, the balance sheet profit – by $191 million. The money will be spent on the polyethylene facilities upgrading and a number of new production facilities projects.

The bankers promised to the company executives that they would make their final decision in autumn.

Russlands grösster Produzent und Exporteur von Polyethylen. Anfang des Jahres notierte der Titel in Berlin noch bei 65 Euro-Cents und erreichte Anfang März mit 1,45 Euro ein neues 52-Wochenhoch. Aktuell notiert der Wert im Bereich von 1,10 bis 1,20 Euro. Interessant ist eine aktuelle Studie von Auerbach Grayson zu diesem Titel, bei dem die künftige Ertragssituation bis zum Jahr 2013 untersucht wird. Aktuell soll das KGV des Titels bei 5 liegen, für das kommende Jahr wird durch erhöhte Investitionsausgaben ein KGV von 6 erwartet. US-amerikanische und europäische Gesellschaften weisen im Schnitt ein KGV zwischen 13 und 14 aus. Was aber für langfristig orientierte Investoren interessant ist: Kapazitätserweiterungen durch die Inbetriebnahme neuer Produktionsstätten werden in 2007 und 2010 für Gewinnsprünge sorgen. Erwarten die Analsten für das kommende Jahr einen Nettogewinn von umgerechnet 98 Mio. USD, so dieser im Folgejahr um satte 50% auf 149 Mio. Dollar springen. Im Jahr 2010, also drei Jahre später soll sich der Gewinn dann auf 320 Mio. USD mehr als verdoppelt haben. Das (nicht abdiskontierte) KGV liegt auf dieser Basis bei 2. Berlin (ots) - In Berlin wandten sich die Anleger heute u. a. Osteuropa-Werten zu, die allerdings durch fallende Kurse auf sich aufmerksam machten. So verloren die ADRs von Kazanorgsintez (WKN 920 948) bei regem Handel heute in Berlin um über 30 Prozent und notierten am späten Mittag nach 27 Preisfeststellungen bei 0,86 Euro. Der russische Chemiekonzern war Anfang März vom Börsenbrief Emerging Markets Investor unter Berufung auf eine Studie von Auerbach Grayson zum spekulativen Kauf empfohlen worden. Noch Anfang März hatten die ADRs bei über 1,40 Euro notiert. Nun rätselt man in Anlegerforen und auf dem Parkett darüber, was den Kurssturz hervorgerufen haben könnte.

Heute wieder schwer nach unten: Liegt ganz einfach daran, dass diejenigen, die kein Geld nachschießen wollen, aussteigen, da ihnen sonst der Kurs verwässert.
Wie man weis, gibt es in Russland den Bezugsrechtehandel noch nicht wie wir es in Deutschland gewöhnt sind.

Ich rate noch einmal, sich lieber von den Stücken in Deutschland zu trennen und bei einem Interesse an KZOS die Originale zu kaufen. Ich weiß nicht, ob man mit den ADRs teilnehmen kann.
Ähnliche Beispiele sind NITR oder aktuell Rostovenergo.
Bei NITR hätten die ADRs nicht teilnehmen können, die KE wurde aber zu deren Glück abgesagt. Bei Rostovenergo läuft nach dem gehandelten Kurs alles darauf hin, dass bei den ADRs einfach die Aufsplittung unterschlagen bleibt. Zurück bleibt der geminderte Firmenwert im ADR-Kurs.

Wenn ich das bei KZOS alles überblicke, dann müsste sich nach den Zahlen von Menglovator der Kurs ziemlich verringern, da es ja 3,5 * neue Stücke zu 0,23$ pro ADR gibt. Wenn man also wirklich nicht teilnehmen kann, dann verwässert der Kurs nochmals um die Hälfte.
