KGHM copper inks [=unterzeichnet] JV [=Joint Venture] deal with Canada's Abacus Mining & Exploration Corp.

"Warszawa. October 12, 2010 (PAP) - Listed copper giant KGHM signed a joint-venture agreement with Canada's Abacus Mining & Exploration Corporation, the firm announced in a market filing.
The signing came as expected, after KGHM extended the deadline for setting up the JV from September 30 to October 12.
Abacus's shareholders approved the JV with KGHM in late June.
According to the deal terms agreed in May, KGHM will buy 51% shares in the joint-venture for USD 37 mln and will purchase call options for further 29% for maximum USD 35 mln. KGHM is also obliged to arrange investment outlays of the project of up to USD 535 mln.
The project assumes annual copper production at the level of 50k tons, and gold production at the level of 100k troz. A 23-year mine-life is predicted, beginning from 2013. Production costs of one ton of copper are estimated at the level of approximately USD 2000.
