NetObjects and Hewlett-Packard

NetObjects and Hewlett-Packard will announce a three-year, multimillion-dollar distribution and services deal on Monday for H-P to use NetObjects software in its digital imaging devices.

H-P will include NetObjects' Matrix and Fusion software in H-P's digital imaging devices, paying NetObjects for each device shipped. The deal will at first involve two new scanners. NetObjects will also receive a share of revenue generated from services tied to its software. H-P will have a renewal option after the third year.

"From a company-model perspective, this is very important," said NetObjects Chairman and CEO Samir Arora, in an interview with CBS.MarketWatch.com. "The way to gauge the health of NetObjects is the announcement of these deals." Read full story.

NetObjects stock (NETO: news, chart, profile) popped up 15 cents, or 27 percent, at 70 cents on the Nasdaq and then rose to $1.60 after hours.

NetObjects had a hearing Thursday in front of the Nasdaq Listings Qualifications board regarding its noncompliance with the exchange's listing requirements.

US Airways, UAL terminate merger

UAL Corp. (UAL: news, chart, profile) and US Airways (U: news, chart, profile) said they were terminating their merger agreement. UAL said it would pay the $50 million termination fee outlined in the agreement.

Shares of UAL closed down 29 cents at $33.63. US Airways ended down 89 cents, or nearly 5 percent, at $17.26. Shares of UAL rose to $33.81 in third market action while US Airways shares were not active in evening trading.

Aviron

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration panel has chosen not to recommend approval of Aviron's flu vaccine, FluMist, citing safety issues.

The Vaccine and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee of the FDA voted 10 to 4 against giving the OK on safety issues, saying there was not enough information to issue an approval. FluMist passed on efficacy, however. The committee voted 8 to 7 in favor for the 1-to-17 age group, and 13 to 2 in favor for adults. Of the seven "no" votes in the children's category, three said they would have voted "yes" if the age group tested was 2 to 17.

Aviron's stock (AVIR: news, chart, profile) has been halted since before the Thursday open, when the committee meeting at the Holiday Inn in Gaithersburg, Md., began.

American Home Products (AHP: news, chart, profile) , which has the rights to market FluMist through its Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories division, closed down 87 cents at $58.06. In third-market trading, AHP shares were flat in light volume. See full story.

Eli Lilly

Eli Lilly (LLY: news, chart, profile) said an FDA advisory committee approved Forteo as a treatment for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, but the committee was split 5-5 on recommending the treatment to improve bone mass for men with osteoporosis.

Forteo is supposed to stimulate new bone formation by increasing the number and/or activity of bone-forming cells.

Lilly shares ended trading on the New York Stock Exchange up 26 cents at $78.38 and rose to $78.68 in third-market action.

Pumatech

Pumatech (PUMA: news, chart, profile) will cut another 20 percent of its staff, or 55 more people, and it will consolidate some facilities in California.

The business software company is trying to help "accelerate its return to profitability," according to a statement. Pumatech cut 20 percent of its staff during the last quarter and, following the latest cuts, Pumatech will employ 215 full-time workers.

Also, due to what Pumatech said is the slow adoption of wireless technologies, the release has been suspended of its online service offering, Intellisync.com. The San Jose, Calif.-based company will take unspecified one-time charges due to these restructurings. Expected savings have yet to be determined.

Ahead of the report, shares ended up 1 cent, or 0.5 percent, at $2.17 and then rose to $2.20 after hours.
