Founded in September 1998, eMachines began selling its low-cost 'eTower' desktop computers in November 1998 and introduced the first branded sub-$400 PC to the U.S. retail market. Since inception, eMachines has shipped more than 3.7 million PCs. Approximately one of every two eMachines consumers is a first-time PC buyer, based on registrations with eMachines. eMachines™ sold the third largest number of desktop PCs through U.S. retailers in 1999, according to PC Data, and sold the largest number of sub-$600 PCs through U.S. retailers in July 1999, according to Ziff Davis' InfoBeads. eMachines™ products have received numerous accolades from the computer media, including prestigious awards in the low-priced PC desktop category. PC Computing presented eMachines with its Most Valuable Product(MVP) 2000 award. In 1999, one of our eTower PCs was ranked number one on Windows Magazine's "WinList 100". Our products have also won CNET.com's Editors' Choice award, Consumers Digest' "Best Value PC" award, and the Ziff Davis Smart Business for the New Economy 2001 MVP award in the low-cost desktop PC category.
eMachines' affordable PCs make the world of computing and the Internet available to a broad spectrum of consumers. Approximately half of eMachines™ consumers are first-time PC buyers who may have limited experience using the Internet and whose first point of contact with the Internet is our PC.
eMachines™ was incorporated in Delaware in September 1998.
