Jobless claims fall in latest week by Rachel Koning
First-time requests for weekly jobless claims fell by 67,000 to 468,000 in the most
recent reporting week, the Labor Department reported Thursday. The number
continues to be volatile from week to week in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist
attacks. Claims rose sharply a week earlier. The four-week moving average,
considered a better read on the current job market because it irons out seasonal
fluctuations, was 463,000, the highest since December 1991.
