American Airlines Jet Crashes in New York

NEW YORK — An American Airlines jet has crashed in Queens, N.Y., sending a plume of smoke into the sky over the New York City borough.
The Boeing 767 crashed shortly after 9 a.m. There is no word yet on the flight number, and how many people were on board.
Several buildings are reportedly on fire in the borough's Rockaway section, which is close to John F. Kennedy International Airport. Fire and emergency personnel are racing to the site.
Queens, one of New York City's five boroughs, is home to both JFK and La Guardia Airports. There were reports that the jet was on approach to Kennedy when it crashed.
