Consumer sentiment improved slightly in early November from October's levels, according to media reports about the University of Michigan's research. The Michigan index of consumer sentiment rose to 83.5 in November from 82.7 in October. Economists had expected a deterioration to 78.3. Current conditions improved to 94.9 from 94.0 while expectations improved to 76.2 from 75.5. Consumer sentiment had plunged in the weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, but seems to have stabilized.
