Kontron Mobile Computing, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: KMBC) , today announced that it has received an order valued at $1.6 million from the United States Army to deliver the FW2000 Mobile Data Server Series III -- a rugged, mobile PC system specially designed for use in vehicles.
The modular FW2000 Mobile Data Server is tailored for demanding in-vehicle applications in military, public safety and utilities computing environments. The $1.6 million order will support the Army``s Force XXI Battle Command Brigade-and-Below (FBCB2) program, which provides situational awareness and digitized battlefield information to soldiers and commanders both in the field and at command headquarters. The FW2000 is central to the Army``s EIS+ (Enhanced Information System), a component of FBCB2 involving vehicle-mounted computing applications.
Kontron Mobile Computing expects to complete delivery of the order in the first quarter of 2003 to the Tobyhanna Army Depot, Pennsylvania -- the U.S. Department of Defense``s largest, full-service communications-electronics maintenance facility.
"EIS+ and the entire FBCB2 system help protect the lives of American soldiers by delivering real-time visual position location data to them and their commanders and by dramatically increasing the amount of battlefield intelligence at their disposal," said Ron Cappellini, deputy director, production engineering, Tobyhanna Army Depot. "Superior vehicle computer systems are a fundamental component within this system and a must for its successful operation at all times."
"It is rewarding to earn repeat business with a customer, but it is especially rewarding when the U.S. Army places continuing trust in our products to perform reliably in mission-critical situations," said Dale Szymborski, president. "We are proud of this ongoing relationship that allows us to provide reliable, rugged, innovative technology supporting important Army missions."
As a result of previous Army orders, the rugged FW2000 Mobile Data Server already has been deployed by the Army in many areas of the world, including training exercises in the U.S. and patrol operations in the Balkans. In 2001, the company also supplied FW2000s to the Army in an order valued at more than $4 million.
