Are we investing or spending?

Every penny we spend, whether discretionary or not, is an investment. Each time we make a transaction, we do so expecting some return, whether tangible or not. Those who succeed in investing, therefore, are the ones who not only derive the best return on their portfolios, but who retain the maximum of their incomes rather than spending it.
