Ariba(R), Inc. , the leading Enterprise Spend Management (ESM) solutions provider, today announced John True, senior vice president, North American Operations, has been promoted to executive vice president, Worldwide Sales, reporting to company president and CEO, Bob Calderoni.
As senior vice president, North American Operations, True was responsible for the direct sales force, system integrator relationships and channel partners within the United States and Canada, which represents a significant portion of Ariba''s business. "Over the last two and one-half years, John''s deep customer and industry knowledge combined with his disciplined leadership skills have been critical in positioning the company as the enterprise spend management market leader," said Bob Calderoni. "His impeccable track record with Fortune 1000 customers makes him an obvious choice for this role."
True replaces Jim Steele, who leaves at the end of September to pursue other career opportunities.
"Jim''s leadership at Ariba has been instrumental to the health and stability Ariba is experiencing today," continued Calderoni. "He has been a great ambassador for Ariba worldwide and his talents will be missed."
"I am excited about this promotion, and proud to lead this talented team of sales professionals," said True. "Ariba Spend Management solutions have already enabled hundreds of companies to save money but we still have a tremendous market opportunity in front of us and our existing blue chip base of references is our best testament to the strength of our solutions."
True has nearly 20 years of sales and management experience including leadership positions at PTC (formerly Parametric Technology Corp) and Data General. True holds a bachelor''s of science degree in Computer Science from the University of Missouri-Rolla.
Ariba Expanding Global Sales Force due to the Success of ESM

"We are looking for only the top sales professionals in the enterprise software and solutions sector with a proven track record of success to compliment our world class sales team," said True. "Ariba has a strong foothold in the ESM space and adding to the strength and success of the sales force will better position Ariba to take advantage of the ESM growth opportunity in front of us."
Ariba is expanding its direct selling presence in most major markets, throughout North America and in Europe.
"Our leadership in ESM allows us to attract best of breed candidates to work with some of the best known global companies, and has positioned us to provide excellent benefits to our employees. We believe we provide a culture at Ariba which is conducive to success," said Calderoni.
