NEW YORK, NY, October 18, 2000 - The National Football League, The Fantastic Corporation, a global provider of Broadband multimedia technology solutions and GlobalMedia.com (NASDAQ: GLMC), a leading streaming and e-solutions provider today announced an agreement in which NFL games and related content will be available to Broadband subscribers in select non-U.S. markets, employing the services and technical capabilities of Fantastic and GlobalMedia.
"The NFL is committed to extending the reach of its games to fans around the world and to promoting new technologies and new media to achieve that goal," said Tola Murphy-Baran, Senior Vice President of Market Development, National Football League. "NFL's highly desirable content will be an effective driver in the proliferation of Broadband networks worldwide. We are teaming up with two high-quality organizations, Fantastic and GlobalMedia.com, to help us deliver a content rich experience to our international fans."
Jeff Mandelbaum, Chairman and CEO of GlobalMedia, stated, "This agreement represents a significant leap forward in our strategy to provide our customers with best of breed streaming-for-profit solutions. "Together we will deliver a seamless IP anywhere solution and bring more customers into the Broadband revolution."
The NFL is the leading sports league in new media and marketing. The NFL's New Media arm is a pioneer in enhancing fans' enjoyment of the game with cutting-edge technology. In 1994, the NFL was the first league to provide a satellite subscription package with NFL SUNDAY TICKET*. In 1995, the NFL was the first league on the Internet with NFL.com and is now easily ranked the most popular sports league site. In 1999, the NFL became the first league to web-cast games overseas in Singapore and Amsterdam.
Last year's technology trials in Singapore and Amsterdam proved that Broadband is a viable delivery option for the future. In Amsterdam on the UPC/chello platform, NFL games were streamed live via cable modem. In Singapore on Singtel Magix, NFL games were encoded and offered to subscribers on a Video On Demand basis throughout the week. Chello and SingTel continue to deliver NFL content to an expanding base of their Broadband subscribers.
GlobalMedia.com (www.globalmedia.com) creates end-to-end solutions for streaming and e-commerce on the Internet and over Broadband. GlobalMedia provides businesses with private label rich media players that generate revenue through advertising and online retail sales. Winner of the prestigious Linux Journal award for the "Best Overall Linux Solution" at Comdex '99, GlobalMedia's applications are scalable, easily implemented and highly customizable. GlobalMedia is the leading publicly traded provider of streaming solutions to traditional media broadcasters in radio, television and film.
The Fantastic Corporation (Zug, Switzerland) is the leading provider of software solutions for data broadcasting. This is an emerging communications technology which combines point-to-multipoint digital broadcasting with point-to-point Internet connectivity, in order to deliver rich interactive media content to PCs, digital set-top boxes or handheld devices (including 3G mobile phones) over any Broadband IP network.
By merging the inherent bandwidth and speed benefits of broadcasting technologies with the interactivity of the Internet, data broadcast provides superior content distribution and interaction in an increasingly IP-centric world. Fantastic's end-to-end software supports the rapid growth of the "data broadcast" industry.
Fantastic's global partners and customers include BT plc, Telecom Italia, Deutsche Telekom, Loral Space and Communications, Reuters, Lucent Technologies, Intel, Singapore Press Holdings and Inktomi.
Fantastic Entertainment is a division of The Fantastic Corporation. Fantastic's Entertainment Division offers an attractive new media solution to entertainment companies wishing to obtain more value from their assets.
