Stellvertretend für drei Branchen: Anglogold (AU, Gold), Chiron (CHIR, Biotech), Microstrategy (MSTR, Software):
Anglogold:
Friday January 31, 1:31 am ET
AngloGold Ltd. - Johannesburg. AngloGold/Fiscal Year 2002: EPS $1.69 Versus $1.31 In 01
Year to December 31:
All figures in U.S. dollars
2002 2001
Net Profit 332.0 Mln 245.0 Mln
Operating Profit 650.0 Mln 517.0 Mln
Headline EPS 169.0 Cents 131.0 Cents
Gold Produced/Ounces 5.9 Mln 7.0 Mln
Dividend 142 Cents 87 Cents
Total Cash Costs ($/Oz) 161.0 178.0
Chiron:
Chiron fourth-quarter profit rises 49 percent
LOS ANGELES, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Biotechnology company Chiron Inc. (NasdaqNM:CHIR - News) on Wednesday said its quarterly net profit rose 49 percent on higher sales of products such as its inhaled antibiotic and test for detecting HIV in donated blood.
The Emeryville, California-based company said its fourth-quarter net income rose to $67 million, or 35 cents a share, from $45 million, or 23 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue rose 12 percent to $356 million.
The company repeated its previous projection for earnings per share of $1.40 to $1.50 for 2003, compared with the current First Call estimate of $1.46.
Microstrategy:
MicroStrategy swings to profit, stock rises
Thursday January 30, 5:41 pm ET
MCLEAN, Va., Jan 30 (Reuters) - Business software maker MicroStrategy Inc.(Nasdaq:MSTRD - News) on Thursday said it swung to a fourth-quarter profit from the year-earlier loss, on higher key software sales and a 27 percent expense reduction.
The McLean, Virginia-based maker of software that scours business data for valuable trends, said its net income was $4.6 million, or 33 cents per diluted share. The result included restructuring, impairment and amortization charges of $2.9 million and a $2 million gain from the early, partial repayment of debt.
A year earlier, MicroStrategy had a fourth-quarter net loss of $24 million, or $2.61 per share.
Revenues fell to $42 million from $43.7 million last year, as a decline in services revenues more than offset a 9 percent increase in software license sales.
Looking ahead, the company forecast first-quarter revenue of $33 million to $37 million. It said its per-share results could be between a loss of 2 cents and a profit of 4 cents.
The company in March 2000 was forced to restate three years of profits as losses. Its stock plunged 62 percent in one day from its all-time high of $333.
MicroStrategy eventually paid $11 million to settle restatement-related charges with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. It also handed over $10 million in stock to shareholders to settle a private lawsuit.
