Metromedia Fiber (MFNX posted a second-quarter loss of $205.2 million, or 34 cents per share, vs. a loss of $92 million, or 17 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue was $91.7 million, up from $43.3 million last year, and ahead of the company's guidance of $89- to $91 million. The company exceeded the consensus estimate for revenue of $89.9 million in a survey of analysts by Thomson Financial/First Call, but its net loss was larger than the target of 32 cents per share amid increased costs. The company said 29 cities are operational on its network. The company also said it's still in financing discussions after announcing on Aug. 1 a commitment letter from Citicorp had been extended to Aug. 15. The normalized cash-flow loss of $45 million matched the low end of company's guidance.
