EMC warns of profit shortfall (EMC) by Ted Griffith
Citing a sharp slowdown in information technology spending, EMC Corp. said Thursday it will fall well short of analysts' second-quarter earnings expectations. The data storage giant said it now expects earnings to be between 4 cents per share and 6 cents per share. EMC said it expects revenue to be about $2 billion. Analysts, on average, had expected EMC to earn 18 cents per share and generate $2.5 billion in revenue, according to analysts polled by Multex. The company also issued a profit warning for the first quarter. "EMC's business is being impacted to a degree with each unanticipated downward step in the global economy. It now appears that there are fewer dollars being invested in information technology than a year ago," Joe Tucci, EMC's CEO, said in a statement. Shares of EMC fell $1.59 to $30.03 during the regular session.

walk-in, business stemming from the nation's economic slowdown.

wenn ich mir das Umfeld anschaue, sehen viele wieder erneute Tiefs und Einbrüche. Dabei war es jedem schon klar das das 2Q ein schwaches sein wird.
Ein Einbruch von 11% ist meiner Meinung nach nichts ungewöhnliches. Bedenkt man das Unternehmen wie Cisco, Intel, Juniper, Commerce One, ... ihre Schätzungen schon um 30% oder mehr senken mussten.
Komischerweise bricht in manchen Zeiten wegen den nicht ungewöhnlichen Meldungen die Panik aus, während es ein andermal niemand interessiert.
