CHAIRMAN'S REVIEW
In line with the expectations of the Directors, the first half of
this financial year has substantially improved on the previous
corresponding periods. The operating profit before tax is $501,840,
up 150.79% from the previous corresponding period of $200,107. The
group also held cash and liquid investments of $5,285,668 at 31
December 1999. The future of the group has been strengthened through
some key strategic alliances entered into late in the period under
review. The positive financial effect of the agreements with E-tec
Limited and Becker Group Limited will be seen in the second half of
the financial year. Your Directors are continuing to look at other
growth opportunities that fit the proven strategies that have been
applied in the past.
The result for this period is very pleasing and again highlights the
successful management strategies applied by your Directors.
Consolidated sales revenue is up 10.7% to $3,554,890 and the Net
Assets of the group has increased to $9,557,215 which is up from
$7,666,353.
The period under review was the first in which the majority of
synergies between Magna Pacific Pty Ltd and Rocvale Entertainment Pty
Ltd have been in place for the whole period. With a number of minor
areas still to be brought together, the Directors are pleased with the
results.
Late in the period your Directors announced the agreement made with
E-tec Limited which will lift the profile of the Group. Magna Pacific
will benefit significantly from this agreement as E-tec Limited was
seen as a major competitor in the past. This agreement gave the group
access to in excess of 1,000 titles such as Dirty Dancing, Charlottes
Web, The Princess Bride and the Republic catalogue of classic movies.
Access to these titles has only been possible as a result of the hard
work of management and staff in making the group efficient and
effective to deal with as a supplier and retailer.
The agreement with Becker Group Limited will result in an immediate
substantial boost to the company sales and profits. The first release
will be The Blair Witch Project on March 29 to video rental by
Rocvale Entertainment Pty Ltd. Magna Pacific Pty Ltd will commence
exploiting the Becker back catalogue over the coming months which
will again provide the growth anticipated by the market. Your
Directors are pleased with the outlook that this agreement provides
and welcome the opportunity to move into the 'must have' league of
video and DVD distribution.
The Magna Pacific web-site is in the process of being upgraded to
allow full browsing of its catalogue including search facilities by
actor. In the short term the on-line shopping facility will be
available allowing faster and easier access to our film catalogue.
With such a strong performance already on the horizon your Directors
should be in a position to pay a dividend at the end of this year.
The final decision in respect of the dividend will be made later in
the year on receipt of management accounts.
The Group has a stable executive team with extensive experience in
the industry. Your Directors remain committed to vigorously pursuing
growth opportunities via merger and/or acquisition within the
entertainment and information technology arenas.
