Bloomberg Story vom 7.04.:
"The Japanese government signaled its support for the drug Avigan, including stockpiling enough doses for 2 million people in an economic stimulus package, even though its efficacy in treating the coronavirus has yet to be proved. Fujifilm unit Fujifilm Toyama Chemical Co. began phase III trials for the drug to treat the virus last week."
"Shares in Fujifilm jumped in March after China endorsed the drug, but then retreated on news that its patents in China had expired."
"The government stockpiles will boost Fujifilm’s revenue, analysts have said. Based on previous stockpiling for the flu in 2018, Jefferies analysts Masahiro Nakanomyo and Hisako Furusumi wrote that they expect 12 billion yen in sales from this year’s stockpiling. Citigroup analysts Masahiro Shibano and Yuta Nishiyama see sales of 15 billion yen with almost 3 billion yen in operating profit based on the 2018 price; if that doubles, they anticipate 30 billion yen in revenue with almost 20 billion yen of operating profit."
"Japan is looking for ways to supply the drug to other countries for free, with about 30 nations making requests, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Friday. The government also moved to ensure that the raw materials needed for the drug are available domestically. It asked chemicals maker Denka Co., the only Japanese maker of the diethyl malonate needed to produce the drug, to restart production. Denka shares have jumped by almost 50% in the two trading sessions since."
