"EU Wants Countries to Embrace "Hot Spot" Services
The European Commission is putting pressure on France, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, and Spain to ease up restrictions and allow operators to offer wireless services in "hot spots", such as coffee shops and airports, using 802.11 wireless technology. The countries prohibit 802.11 wireless service because they're afraid that it will eat into 3G operators profits. 802.11 All of the countries mentioned are committed to the rollout of 3G services. The EU argues that prohibiting 802.11 services will damage competition and hinder the widespread use of the technology. The EU, which will be able to overrule national telecom regulators beginning next July, has already warned the countries that restricting the use of 802.11 could be a breach of EU law."
Da hat die EU völlig recht.
Ich denke, wenn 802.11 kommt, ist Schicht im Schacht mit UMTS. Die Millardchen kommen dann nie mehr rein.
Da muss Freiheit gelten, auch wenn sich einige Unternehmen mit den Lizenzen in die Nesseln gesetzt haben. Selber Schuld.
