Die Wiesbadener plenum AG, die als Beratungs- und
Technologieunternehmen innovative Geschäfts- und IT-Lösungen
konzipiert und realisiert, steigerte nach vorläufigen Angaben den
Umsatz in den ersten neun Monaten 1999 im Vergleich zum
Vorjahreszeitraum um 66 Prozent auf DM 37,3 Mio. (Vj.
DM 22,5 Mio.). Im Zeitraum vom 1. Januar bis 30. September 1999
nahm das operative Ergebnis (EBIT) um 50 Prozent auf DM 6,0 Mio.
zu (Vj. DM 4,0 Mio.). Das Systemhaus Rost & Partner GmbH, das
erstmals konsolidiert wurde, steuerte in den ersten neun Monaten
1999 einen Umsatz von DM 3,7 Mio. und ein operatives Ergebnis von
DM 0,5 Mio. bei. Das Ergebnis der gewöhnlichen Geschäftstätigkeit
(EBET) stieg um 61 Prozent auf DM 6,6 Mio. (Vj. DM 4,1 Mio.). Mit
einer Vorsteuerrendite von 17,7 Prozent stellte plenum damit
erneut die konstant hohe Ertragsqualität unter Beweis. Der
Periodenüberschuss lag mit DM 3,3 Mio. um sehr gute 65 Prozent
über dem Wert des Vorjahres (DM 2,0 Mio.).
Ausbau des plenum-Netzwerkes
Mit der im Oktober 1999 erworbenen Beteiligung von 25,1 Prozent an
der IBL Ingenieurbüro Letters GmbH, einem führenden Unternehmen im
Bereich objektorientierter Softwaretechnologien, baute die plenum
AG ihr Netzwerk 1999 auf insgesamt fünf Partnerunternehmen
(Companions) aus. Mit dem Electronic Marketing-Spezialisten
digital advertising AG, dessen Erstnotierung am Neuen Markt in
Frankfurt am 29. Oktober 1999 unmittelbar bevorsteht, geht bereits
der dritte plenum Companion an die Börse. Ergänzend dazu
verstärkte sich plenum im Kerngeschäft durch die Übernahme der
Rost & Partner GmbH. Das auf die Integration der IT-Systeme von
Banken, Börsen und Wertpapierhändlern spezialisierte Systemhaus
stärkt die Marktposition von plenum im Bereich Electronic Banking.
Produktentwicklung: Integrationsplattformen für Internetlösungen
Gemeinsam mit IBL gründete plenum im Oktober die
Produktentwicklungsgesellschaft Avantis GmbH, um in das lukrative
lizenzbasierte Geschäft mit Softwareprodukten einzusteigen. An der
Avantis GmbH, die als Kern der Aktivitäten die Weiterentwicklung
des Softwareentwicklungswerkzeuges "Polar" betreibt, hält plenum
einen Anteil von 50 Prozent plus einer Option auf weitere
0,1 Prozent.
plenum hat bereits im dritten Quartal begonnen, in die eigene
Produktentwicklung zu investieren, und wird den Ausbau des
attraktiven Produktgeschäftes auch im vierten Quartal forcieren.
Die von der plenum Systeme entwickelte Integrationsplattform von
Internettechnologien und Großcomputersystemen soll zur
Produktreife geführt und mit "Polar" verbunden werden.
Außerdem wird das bei Rost & Partner vorhandene Know-how genutzt,
um eine moderne Integrationsplattform für internetfähige Banking-
und Brokerage-Lösungen zu entwickeln. Diese Plattform soll genutzt
werden, um die Produkte der plenum Companions und der
strategischen Kooperationspartner zu einer integrierten Banking-
Lösung zusammenzufügen. Auch in den Aufbau einer internetbasierten
Projektmanagement- und Controlling-Umgebung wird plenum
investieren, um die Anwendungsentwicklung internationaler Konzerne
effizient zu unterstützen, deren Entwicklungsberiche als Folge von
Fusionen und Kooperationen oft weltweit verteilt sind. Mit diesen
Investitionen strebt plenum einen weitreichenden Schritt vom
reinen IT-Dienstleister zum Produktanbieter an.

According to preliminary results, Wiesbaden-based plenum AG, the
consulting and technology company specializing in the design and
implementation of innovative business and IT solutions, increased
its sales in the first nine months of 1999 by 66 percent year-on-
year, to DM 37.3 million (previous year: DM 22.5 million). EBIT
rose by 50 percent to DM 6.0 million (previous year: DM 4.0
million) between January 1 and September 30, 1999. During this
period, the systems integrator Rost & Partner GmbH - included in
consolidation for the first time - contributed sales amounting to
DM 3.7 million and EBIT amounting to DM 0.5 million. EBET grew by
61 percent to DM 6.6 million (previous year: DM 4.1 million). With
a 17.7 percent pre-tax margin, plenum has once again demonstrated
its ability to consistently generate high earnings. Net income for
the period amounted to DM 3.3 million, up a substantial 65 percent
on the prior-year period (DM 2.0 million).
Expansion of the plenum network
In October 1999, plenum AG acquired a 25.1 percent share in IBL
Ingenieurbüro Letters GmbH, a leading object-oriented software
technology company, bringing its network to a total of five
partner companies (Companions). The electronic marketing
specialist digital advertising AG - due to be listed on
Frankfurt's Neuer Markt for the first time on October 29, 1999 -
is the third of plenum's Companions to obtain a public listing. In
addition, the acquisition of Rost & Partner GmbH has strengthened
plenum's core business. The systems integrator, which specializes
in IT systems for banks, stock exchanges and securities traders,
has enhanced plenum's position in the electronic banking segment.
Product development: integration platforms for internet solutions
In October plenum and IBL founded a joint product development
company, Avantis GmbH, with the aim of tapping the lucrative
license-based software business. The core business of Avantis
GmbH's is to further develop "Polar", the software development
tool. plenum currently holds a 50 percent share in the company,
with an option to acquire an additional 0.1 percent.
plenum began investing in its own product development activities
in Q3 1999 and plans to accelerate expansion of this attractive
segment in Q4. Activities will include readying the integration
platform for Internet technologies and mainframe systems developed
by plenum Systeme for launching on the market, and linking it with
"Polar". In addition, plenum will build on Rost & Partner's
expertise in the development of a leading-edge integration
platform for Internet-enabled banking and brokerage solutions.
This platform will be used to consolidate the products
manufactured by plenum's Companions and strategic cooperation
partners into an integrated banking solution. plenum also plans to
invest in an Internet-based project management and controlling
solution. This product will be targeted towards providing
efficient support for application development by international
corporate groups, whose development facilities are often
distributed worldwide as a result of mergers and alliances. These
investments mark a landmark transition for plenum - from a simple
IT service provider to a product supplier.
plenum AG will publish its complete interim report as at
September 30, 1999 on November 16, 1999.
