Mr. David Hodge reports
COMMERCE RESOURCES CORP. EXPANDS PROGRAM WITH GARTNER LEE LIMITED
Commerce Resources Corp. has initiated an expanded environmental and regulatory program to support the requirements of the BC Environmental Assessment Office, for a potential Future application of an approval of an environmental assessment certificate for the Upper Fir project. Given a positive prefeasibility study, this approval would allow Commerce to enter into the regulatory process for permitting mine construction and development at its wholly owned Blue River tantalum-niobium project.
Additional work planned for 2007 includes continuing metallurgical testing for niobium and tantalum extraction at SGS-Lakefield. The results, which are expected in May, 2007, will feed into a prefeasibility study scheduled for completion in the fall of 2007.
Commerce Resources has recently signed contracts with Gartner Lee Ltd. and its team of subcontractors to carry out field programs which will expand upon environmental work started in 2006. Planned work includes water and sediment quality sampling, groundwater sampling, and surface water surveys, as well as fish, benthic life and fish habitat investigations. On the terrestrial side, soils, vegetation, rare plants and habitat surveys will be undertaken this summer. Terrain analysis, acid rock drainage and metal leaching studies will also be completed in late spring to summer 2007. The latter programs will provide information that is essential to the environmental and engineering teams, which will prepare a mine plan, should the project development proceed. Reports will be delivered to Commerce Resources in the fall of 2007 for inclusion in the proposed prefeasibility.
"This is a very positive step for Commerce Resources as they move the Upper Fir project forward," said Neil Westoll, National Mining Practice area lead. "And Gartner Lee Ltd. is pleased to have been selected to continue working with Commerce Resources on this exciting property."
While environmental specialists are preparing the field programs and reports, Commerce Resources is planning to engage early with the local communities to provide project information and regular updates. The goal will be to ensure that all stakeholders are given opportunities to keep abreast of plans, and provide input to the process. Following the early communication and information sessions planned for late spring to summer 2007, more formal consultation will take place once the Upper Fir enters the British Columbian Environmental Assessment process. Commerce Resources is committed to fostering effective and early consultation with all local groups to ensure that any concerns may be addressed early in the process.
