Vaisala reorganizes its Weather Business Area

Vaisala reorganizes its Weather Business Area in order to simplify structure and operations and to better align with the strategy. Weather Business Area continues to develop industry leading weather observation products and services, which combine expertise regarding customers' business and Vaisala's technology leadership.

Weather Business Area organizes its business under four regions which have profit and loss responsibility. The regions are:

  • Americas
  • Europe
  • Asia-Pacific, Middle-East and Africa
  • China

Additionally, Weather Business Area separates its product and service offering into two business lines, which are responsible for product management, application expertise and R&D:

  • Offering unit, responsible for Weather Business Area's hardware and software products, consists of Soundings, Weather Radars, Weather Instruments and Weather Systems product areas.
  • Information Services unit, responsible for hosted services, decision support systems and consulting offering, consists of Renewable Energy, Road Transportation, Aviation and Lightning application areas.

In Vaisala's Group reporting net sales will continue to be reported with the current regional structure: Americas (North and South America), EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), and APAC (Asia-Pacific including China).

"Weather Business Area enjoys global leadership position in its traditional markets of meteorology and transportation. In order to succeed in driving growth and maintaining our leadership going forward, we need to be geared for the highest customer intimacy. We can best succeed in that through regional organizations, who know their markets and customer needs intimately" says Jarkko Sairanen, Executive Vice President of Weather Business Area. "Over the years Vaisala has built several highly value-adding information services products for transportation segment and lightning applications. Combining those with our renewable energy business, whose core is also based on information services, provides us with opportunities to leverage capabilities across our digital offering, as well as efficiencies in operations" continues Jarkko Sairanen.

The new organization will be effective on January 1, 2017.
