USMD Health System Appoints Jim Berend Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President

IRVING, Texas, Aug. 18, 2015

Prior to joining USMD, Berend served as CFO and executive vice president of a company operating surgical hospitals in Texas. He was responsible for finance and accounting, centralized billing office, materials management and hospital financial operations. He previously was the partner in charge of the healthcare practice at Grant Thornton and the healthcare consulting practice at Ernst & Young in Dallas. Berend started his career at and spent nearly 25 years at Arthur Andersen, beginning as a staff accountant, rising to partner and then leading the healthcare practice in Dallas Fort Worth.

Berend received his Bachelor of Business Administration, with highest honors, from The University of Texas in Austin. He is a licensed CPA in Texas. In 2014, Becker's Hospital Review named Berend one of the "150 Hospital and Health System CFOs to Know for 2014" for his demonstrated excellence in healthcare financial management by leading one of the largest, most prominent and financially successful healthcare organizations in the nation.
