TransAtlantic received delivery of the AHTS vessel Loke Viking at the end of
last week from the Astilleros Zamakona shipyard, in Bilbao, Spain. The
christening ceremony took place on May 20. The godmother was Eva Skaarberg, wife
of President Rolf Skaarberg from Norwegian Viking Supply Ship AS.
Loke Viking is contracted by the UK oil company Cairn Energy to assist in oil
drilling west of Greenland. The assignment also includes the two AHTS vessels,
Balder Viking and Vidar Viking.
Loke Viking is the first new-build in a series of four that are being built in
the shipyard in Spain. The sister vessel, Njord Viking, is scheduled for
delivery in November 2010. The vessel series is specifically designed to meet
demands for efficient, safe and environmentally friendly offshore management in
areas with severe ice conditions.
