Multi-million dollar order from Boeing to Stork Aerospace for C-17
transport aircraft
Stork Aerospace has again won an order worth several tens of millions
of dollars to supply components for the Boeing C-17 (Globemaster III)
military transport aircraft.
This is a follow-on order for the production of fundamental
components for the complex loading ramp/door of the aircraft's hold,
as well as plastic spoilers. The actual delivery by the Stork/Fokker
locations of Hoogeveen and Papendrecht - will take place from 2004 to
2008.
The C-17 is a military transport aircraft that combines a high
airlift capacity with the capability to operate from short and poorly
surfaced runways. Among the well known roles which the aircraft has
fulfilled are humanitarian aid and support missions. It initially
entered service with the United States Air Force, which has now
ordered a total of 180, with the recent announcement for buying 60
more C-17s for its airlift fleet. In additional to the U.S. Air Force
fleet, the U.K. Royal Air Force is leasing four C-17 Globemasters to
help meet their airlift needs.
Stork Aerospace specialises in the design, development and production
of lightweight structures and electrical components for the
commercial and military aviation industry and the space industry.
This group achieved a turnover of EUR 420 million in 2001, out of the
total Stork turnover of EUR 2.2 billion, and has 3,335 employees.
