SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Kindred Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: KIN), a biopharmaceutical company focused on saving and improving the lives of pets, today announced that it will be sponsoring twenty veterinary students to attend the 2017 American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) meeting to be held in Denver, CO October 19-22, 2017. Applicants included students from accredited veterinary colleges in the U.S. This sponsorship gives feline-focused veterinary students, who otherwise might not have the opportunity to attend, a chance to deepen their understanding and exposure to feline practice and to interact with prominent thought-leaders.

"We are proud to support the recipients of the veterinary student sponsorship in their endeavor to broaden their knowledge of feline infectious disease and pediatrics, the focus of this year's conference.  It was a pleasure to work with the AAFP to interview and select the candidates.  We are excited about what the future holds for these focused students and eager to continue to build relationships with veterinary students across universities and disciplines," says KindredBio's Director of Veterinary Affairs, Valentine S. Williams, DVM, MS, DACVS.

"The Student Award Program, sponsored by KindredBio, is such a wonderful opportunity for students to become engaged as future leaders in feline veterinary medicine. We are excited that KindredBio and the AAFP were able to work together to support the education and networking opportunities of these talented emerging leaders," says AAFP President, Lauren E. Demos, BGS, BSc (Vet Biol), BVMS Hons (Vet Virology).

The AAFP recognizes the need for feline-focused practitioners and the education to support cats as a unique species, not as "small dogs." This includes initiatives such as the "cat friendly practice" designation and resources such as the educational website for cat caregivers, which can be accessed at www.catvets.com. The AAFP is dedicated to the advancement of feline practice by setting standards of feline care through publications, practice guidelines, position statements, and continuing education for the feline focused practitioner. KindredBio's collaboration with the AAFP engages the veterinary community by facilitating exchange of scientific data and ideas. The student sponsorship is just one part of this partnership.
