FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental Rail Corp. (formerly MKRO) (PINK: MKRO), a holding company formed to acquire and operate short line and regional freight railroads, announced today that Ambassador Ned L. Siegel has joined its Board of Directors. Mr. Siegel will play a key role in advising the company as it seeks to grow through short line rail acquisitions.

Ambassador Ned L. Siegel was sworn in as the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas on October 26, 2007, by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. During Mr. Siegel's 15-month tenure as Ambassador, he resided full-time in Nassau, serving as Chief of Mission responsible for all operations of Embassy Nassau. In January 2009, following his tenure as Ambassador, Ambassador and Mrs. Siegel returned to their home in Boca Raton, Florida, where he resumed his duties as chairman of The Siegel Group, Inc., a real estate development, investment and consulting firm.

Prior to serving the country as Ambassador, Mr. Siegel was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as a Representative of the United States to the United Nations, where he served from September 2006 - January 2007 under Ambassador John R. Bolton as a Senior Advisor to the U.S. Mission to the 61st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. In 2003, Mr. Siegel was honored by President Bush with a Presidential Appointment to the board of directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), which was established as a development agency of the U.S. government in 1971 to help U.S. businesses invest overseas. Mr. Siegel served as a member of the OPIC board of directors until September 2007.

Commented Ambassador Siegel, "I have worked with members of the management team of Continental Rail Corp. in the past and I am confident in their ability to lead and build a solid railroad organization. I believe that the current resurgence of the U.S. railroad industry provides a great opportunity not only for the economic growth of local communities, but also for those served by the industry. I am committed to the success of Continental Rail Corp. and I look forward to working alongside management to construct a forward thinking company."

"We are honored and indeed privileged to have Ambassador Siegel join our Board of Directors," said Continental Rail Corp. CEO Neil Swartz. "We look forward to his leadership and guidance as we execute our plan to establish a leading short line railroad company through strategic acquisitions."
