Yahoo 4th-Qtr Earnings Rise 11-Fold on E-Commerce (Correct)

Santa Clara, California, Jan. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Yahoo! Inc.,
the top Web-navigation company, said its fourth-quarter earnings
rose almost 12-fold, exceeding expectations, on higher
advertising and e-commerce revenue from the holiday season.
Net income rose to $44.7 million, or 15 cents a share, from
$3.8 million, or 1 cent, a year ago. Profit excluding
amortization and goodwill costs was $57.6 million, or 19 cents.
That beat 15 cents, the average estimate from First Call/Thomson
Financial. Revenue rose to $201.1 million from $91.3 million,
beating analysts forecasts of $183.8 million.
The company also said it would split its stock 2-for-1
effective Feb. 14.
Yahoo has beefed up its shopping sites and is generating
more e-commerce sales to supplement advertising revenue. The
efforts paid off as the Santa Clara, California-based company
benefited from the rush of online merchants trying to reach its
105 million users via the Web this holiday season.
``This is the first time they're charging merchants for e-
commerce. Ad revenue was very, very big this quarter,'' said Safa
Rashtchy, an analyst at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray who rates the
stock ``strong buy.''
Yahoo's earnings come a day after rival America Online Inc.
said it would acquire media titan Time Warner Inc. for $178
billion, raising speculation whether Yahoo will make an
acquisition to better compete with AOL.
The company said its registered users rose to more than 100
million people at the end of 1999.
Its page views rose to an average of 465 million page views
a day from 167 million in December 1998. A page view is one
electronic page of information displayed upon a user's request.
Yahoo shares fell 38 9/16 to 397 1/2 in regular U.S. trading
on the Nasdaq. It released its results after the 4 p.m. New York
close.

Die Flüsterschätzungen beliefen sich auf 20 und im besten Falle 22 Cents pro Aktie. 19 Cents sind zwar besser als die geplanten 15 Cents, aber im Endeffekt wachsen nun auch bei Yahoo nicht die Bäume in den Himmel.
Es wird eine weitere Korrektur geben.
