Danish Vestas to Stay Out of Chinese Market
10 February 2012 | news Newsdesk
Vestas’ sales in China dropped sharply in 2011, due to what it says were a conscious decision to stay out of the market due to “unacceptable” price conditions.
“This has been a conscious choice. We are saying that with that level of pricing we are not interested in participating,” says the Danish turbine manufacturer’s chief executive Ditlev Engel.
Vestas has not provided a detailed breakdown of sales, but its Asia business was down sharply in 2011, and Ditlev Engel has stressed that the drop in Asia business mainly is due to China.
Despite being more or less forced out of the Chinese market in 2011, Engel says the company has no plans to change its strategy in the country.
“We are not changing our position on how we have positioned ourselves and that is what we are going to stick by,” says Engel.
He claims that Vestas’ technology and the performance of its turbines will eventually be recognized, and that its China business unit has done a magnificent job in terms of customer satisfaction.
